The wood in this photo is cherry.  I also did myrtlewood, walnut and poplar.

I love carving cherry and walnut.

For anyone who is thinking of carving or has already started, if you aren't sure of your tools yet, try carving soap.  It's forgiving enough to be fun and if you mess it up, you can still use the soap. Smiley

You can also carve basswood, which is a soft wood and easy to carve.  Carving the cherry is sometimes a challenge, because of all that beautiful grain, but the results are gratifying.

 Thanks.

It's all made from one board.  And it's very smooth.  I spent the extra time sanding.  I'm quite pleased with how they turned out.  And the customer was very happy with it.

Been gone for awhile.  Somehow I lost my internet and have been offline for a few weeks.

Anyway, here's my latest project.  I made eight sets of these.  Only posting one.

I'm still reading through all the posts that I have missed, but I see lots of crafty goodness.

Sorry I've been gone so long.  LIfe has been hectic lately.  I have an upcoming craft fair that I wanted to make some new items for, so here they are.

The first six items are copper coil ornaments.

The next photos are my paper crafts.  The first pic is my tiny boxes.  The smallest one is only 3/4 of an inch.  The next photos are 3 inch squares, folded and assembled in different ways.  The last of the four is called a gyroscope fold, because it's three dimensional.  These are fun to make because there's no glueing involved.  I also added buttons to the middle, just for fun.

The last photo is a kusadama ball.  There are 60 pieces of paper in this ball.  I had an old Rogue River map that I used to make it.  Took several days and lots of glue for this one, and I decided after making it that I am not going to do this again.

CA glue is super glue.  CA is the generic name.

The box is wonderful anyway.  I wouldn't have noticed the hole, except for the close-up photo.  You did a good job on it.

Nice work.  And your groundhog really does look like a groundhog to me.

Nice work.  You could probably fill the sawblade hole with some sawdust and CA glue.  Sand when finished and you can't see the hole.

It's a pretty box anyway.

I'd say you're doing quite well at faces.  This one looks wonderful.

I've been carving for a few years now and still can't get the faces right.

The game is totally fun, and because they painted the tiles red, they are easy to see from a distance.

Here's a preview from my garden.

Kentucky wonder green beans

Pineapple tomatoes

These are all great projects.  I love the quilty stuff, the owls, the tiny bears, and everything else that I've lost track of.  I'm having a hard time keeping up.

Here's an update on the scrabble tiles that I made a while back.  They have been painted and used in several games.  They seem to be a hit with the adults, but the kids weren't too excited about them.
