I made something! Holy whoa! (I haven't made anything in a long time. )
I started playing roller derby last year (yay!!) and last weekend after our home bout someone from the league accidentally lost our helmet panties! If you're not familiar with roller derby, there are two positions that need these helmet covers so that everyone can tell who's doing what. The pivot has a stripe on her helmet and the jammer (the only one who can score points) has a star. The league is going to a tournament THIS weekend so we needed some new panties in a hurry!
I was able to find 4 way stretch spandex at Jo-ann on Monday and just put the finishing touches on these 8 panties today. In an ideal world, these would have been black and grey and yellow and grey but this is all I could get on such short notice! I made 2 of each cover in each color so we're set no matter what color we're wearing this weekend. I used this pattern: http://www.burdastyle.com/projects/roller-derby-helmet-covers
Unfortunately the only black thread I had was cotton which I didn't think would hold up to all of the abuse these will get. So I used white instead. UGH! It doesn't look so bad on the yellow but it's not so cute on the black. If I'd had more time I definitely would've gone out and got more black polyester thread.
I think they turned out alright but the elastic isn't super tight so I'm just totally paranoid that something crazy will happen and they'll fall off!
Did you know you can enable your profile to automatically return you to the thread you just posted in instead of taking you back to the board where the thread lives? This allows you not only to go back and reread comments you may have skipped, it also allows you to double check what you've just posted (for instance if you posted a tutorial want to make sure your formatting is correct).
To enable this feature:
Click MY CRAFTSTER on the tape measure menu toward the top of the screen
Click My Profile
Under the heading Modify Profile, click Look and Layout Preferences
Select "Return to topics after posting by default." from the list.
A big thanks to everyone that shared awesome projects, advice and inspiration on Craftster in 2012. It was a great year and, as always, we're amazed by our community!
Of course, choosing the "Best Of" is a fun, but very difficult task for us. After all, all of the projects posted on Craftster are the best! This is just a small sampling of what makes our community such a great place to call home. We all deserve major kudos for everything we've contributed to Craftster in the last year!
After more than 2 years of work, we have finally gathered together every single tutorial and pattern on Craftster that we could find!!!
You may have noticed tutorial lists popping up around the boards over the past few years. If not, here's an example:
Each category and completed project board has its own list of tutorials. Some were broken down further since there were so many! You can find a list of each tutorial list here at our Master List:
Here are some awesome facts about our tutorials and their lists:
There are more than 4500 individual tutorials or patterns on Craftster!
They were created by more than 2700 different users.
There are currently 114 lists and 24 lists of lists.
The category with the most tutorials or patterns is Clothing.
But the board with the most tutorials or patterns is Crochet (underneath the Crochet category).
The lists will be updated periodically (probably quarterly). New tutorials will be added and tutorials that are no longer usable (for example, if the images explaining the process are missing) will be removed.
So with that, go forth and create! And we hope that 2013 proves to be the craftiest yet.
Here are links to almost completely thorough lists of the tutorials and pattern that are available on Craftster's boards. Each tutorial list has thumbnail images of the item made by the tutorial and a description of the item. If a particular board was too large for one list, it was broken up and each thread is listed here separately.
Some tutorials and patterns were excluded for lack of clarity and no tutorials or patterns listed solely on other sites were included.
If you find another pattern or tutorial that you feel should be included in any of these lists, please reply!
This has obviously been quite a big undertaking and with so many pieces to the puzzle, some things may have fallen through the cracks. If you notice that a link is incorrect or a description is not correct, please let us know either here or in the specific thread. We want this to be as easy to use as possible.
Here is what should be a completely thorough list of the tutorials that are available in the Crafty Business Advie boards. Generally, each board would have its own list, but since there are so few in this category they will, for now at least, all live together. Some tutorials may have been excluded for lack of clarity and no tutorials listed solely on other sites were included.
If you find another tutorial that you feel should be included here, please reply! If you notice that a link is incorrect or a description is not correct, please let us know here, too. We want this to be as easy to use as possible.
