1  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Monster Swap Round 6 Gallery on: June 17, 2016 05:39:40 AM

SWAP THREAD
2  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / New to Encaustic Art on: May 31, 2016 08:00:35 AM
I was partnered up with the ever so talented alteredmommy in the wall art swap and I knew I needed to create something out of my usual monster comfort zone for her and I came up with the idea of trying encaustic. I used some gift cards and bought an encaustic art starter kit from R&F. Definitely fun and worth it! The kit comes with two little encaustic boards and one larger cradle board. I practiced on the small boards before attempting this one with the larger board for alteredmommy.

I spent an afternoon creating gelli prints and then cut them with my Silhouette machine to get the shapes before adding them to the piece.

Here's a detail shot of the gelli pieces and the texture.

I used up all of the encaustic medium that came with the kit so now I need to get some more so I can create more pieces!
3  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Gilmore Girls Pre-Reunion Swap on: May 11, 2016 09:40:41 AM
I'm so excited about the Gilmore Girls reunion being filmed now that I can hardly stand it! I'm thinking of watching all of the old episodes again when I get time before the new reunion airs. I'm sure I'm not the only GG fan here on craftster. Maybe an early fall Gilmore Girls swap is in order? Would there be any interest?

5  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / 70 - Mixed Media - Fauxcaustic on: March 15, 2016 02:32:41 PM
I love encaustic art. I find it so beautiful and the layers of the art so inspiring. Well, I'm too lazy and cheap to go out and equip a studio with proper ventilation, so I tried to mimic the layering with acrylic and different acrylic mediums.
This is the first I've tried. I plan on doing a few more to offer for one of the Shop the Swaps here on craftster.  I'm hoping with a little more trial and error, I can find a better fauxcaustic layered look, but I'm still happy with the way this one turned out.

There are a ton of different layers to it.  It involved paint, alcohol ink, distress stain, modeling paste, stencils from gelli printing, microbeads, gloss medium, pastels, washi tape, and more paint. I love the cracks I got from some part of it reacting with the plastic from the stencils. A happy accident, I think.
Here are a few detail shots.
6  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Gelli Print Envelopes and Matching Notecards on: April 15, 2015 07:53:35 AM
When I saw the Gelli Plate on Pinterest, I just knew I had to have one.  It's a reusable gelatin like "plate" that you add paint and stencils to and get amazing and detailed prints like this:

I bought one for myself for a present. Two years and lots of fun Gelli printing later, I had a lot of prints but couldn't think of a way to use them. Along came an Envelope Punch Board and the rest is history. I made the envelopes and used the left over trimmed scraps to add a little bit of matching decoration to the cards inside like this:

These are the lots of envelopes and matching cards that I made to offer for the Spring Shop the Swap.

If you're looking for a way to put your Gelli prints to use or an excuse to buy a Gelli plate, I think these are reason enough. Smiley

9  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / New Use What You Have Swap? on: January 28, 2015 06:59:43 AM
I'm thinking it might be a good time to do another use what you have swap where you create items from your stash swap instead of purchasing items.
I know my stash is bursting with goodness that's just waiting to be turned into something great. Smiley

10  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Robot Shrine on: August 15, 2014 05:46:18 AM
I decided to move from my normal monster theme and chose "cute robots" in the Whimsical Shrine Swap.  I made this little guy for Jen Sews.  It is made from wood and miscellaneous gathered junk that my boyfriend had been saving (along with the burned out light bulb that the robot is holding).  I am thankful now that he is a bit of a hoarder. Smiley  The metal pieces on the back were from an old pallet that he ground down for me.
