1  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Robot Shrine on: August 15, 2014 05:46:18 AM
I decided to move from my normal monster theme and chose "cute robots" in the Whimsical Shrine Swap.  I made this little guy for Jen Sews.  It is made from wood and miscellaneous gathered junk that my boyfriend had been saving (along with the burned out light bulb that the robot is holding).  I am thankful now that he is a bit of a hoarder. Smiley  The metal pieces on the back were from an old pallet that he ground down for me.

5  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / Kwality Monster Plushies on: February 12, 2014 07:10:53 AM
My friend just had surgery, so I figured she could use a friend in recovery.

Meet Smitty.  He's the same color as the monster in my avatar, but he's different, I assure you.  I think he looks a lot like Gary Busey!

This red guy was made in the summer for a friend's birthday.  Note the lack of 3 feet of snow on the ground. Smiley

I just kind of winged them both as I was crocheting.  I'm horrible at reading patterns because I never pay attention, so winging it is good.  The bodies are wool roving that I brushed after they were done with a dog slicker brush to make them fuzzy.  The arms were done with Red Heart Curly Q yarn because I liked the way the colors changed.  They've discontinued it, so I'm looking for another fun variegated slightly bulky yarn.  Anyone have any suggestions?
6  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Scrappy Hat on: February 10, 2014 11:44:40 AM
Looking for a way to get rid of some small balls of yarn you have lingering?  I was going through my yarn bin and realized that I had almost two full grocery bags of just scrap yarn balls.  I decided to make a hat.  It doesn't take much yarn for each "rib" and will chew through a bit of your stash.  I just grabbed one color after another, but I'm sure you could make a very nice color coordinated hat, too.

Pattern can be found here:
http://www.eatingoutloud.com/2011/09/beginner-ribbed-crochet-hat-pattern-mens-unisex.html

I just changed color after I completed a 45 and a 40 count row of the same color.  With the pattern, the great thing is that all of the strings from changing colors are at the top, so they're easy to tie off and weave in without them showing.

7  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Perpetual Monster Calendar! on: February 10, 2014 11:36:21 AM
I asked Gozer to be my partner for the IYP 24 Fall Fandango swap because I just knew I needed to make her a monster calendar for 2014.  I was looking for a reason to purchase a Zutter Bind-It-All after seeing some projects created with them, so I bought one and started designing the calendar!  Each day of the week has a different monster, as does the months.  The numbers all have different patterned backgrounds.  I designed them all in Illustrator, saved as jpg files, printed them at the local photo lab, cut them out and voila!  Perpetual Monster Calendar.

The great thing is now that I spent hours and hours designing the original file, I can print out and bind a bunch of them to give calendars to all of my friends!

Here are a few shots of a few different days.  The little guy for August is definitely my favorite.  He's a little tourist with a camera, fanny pack, and I heart NY hat.  Smiley

8  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / February Monsters on: February 10, 2014 11:26:28 AM
I created these monsters this month - the snowy monster is for the Friends of Craftster Raffle and the other one was done for a friend. I've been meaning to make more, but I've been hibernating under blankets and crocheting a lot in the past few months.

10  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Use What You Have Swap? on: January 08, 2014 09:42:01 AM
Anyone up for another round of Use What You Have?  I did one years ago and it was fun to only be able to use what's in your stash.  I was going through my craft room looking for some wire yesterday and I found lots of things that I bought to only use once.
With everyone being budget conscious this time of year after the holidays, what a great way to get and send a craft package, only paying for the shipping?

Is anyone interested?
