1  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / M&M scarf (with tutorial) on: August 09, 2014 01:01:28 PM
I know what you're thinking.... Beth, seriously, isn't it always 105 degrees where you live?  The answer is yes but that makes having an M&M scarf that much more fun!
Now you too can make your own M&M scarf!
Choose as many colors to represent the M&Ms as you like (I chose 6)
size J crochet hook
yarn needle
white felt (for cutting out the Ms)
Make 18 circles:
double crochet 8 times into a magic circle, pull tight and slip stitch into top of first stitch (8 stitches)
Round 2: ch 2, dc into same stitch, 2 dc into each stitch around, join with slip stitch into top of ch 2. (16 stitches)
Round 3: ch 2, dc into same stitch, 2 dc into each stitch around, join with slip stitch into top of ch 2. (32 stitches)
Round 4: ch 2, dc into same stitch, 2 dc into each stitch around, join with slip stitch into top of ch 2. (64 stitches)
Leave long tail for sewing circles together.
Join circles by threading long tail onto yarn needle and stitching to adjacent circle (6 o'clock position) while the tail of next circle is at the 12 o'clock position.  stitch at 6 o'clock position, 2 stitches to the right of center, double back and 2 stitches to the left of center for a total of 5 stitches joining the 2 circles.  Continue stitching til all 18 are joined.
Cut 18 M logos out of white felt and adhere with craft/fabric glue.  Let dry and enjoy your scarf!

The circles all stitched together prior to attaching the felt:

7  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Re: "Claire Underwood"-inpired dress from mens trousers. on: April 28, 2014 07:24:20 AM
Brilliant! My husband bought a suit for the jacket only so there's a pair of unhemmed unworn pants in his closet I might fish out and make into a matching dress.  Thanks for the inspiration!  Great work!

9  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Easter wreath! (with tutorial) on: April 17, 2014 06:54:40 AM
My autumn wreath has been hanging on the door since October so I figured it was time to upgrade.

Gather your suuplies:
12 inch florist wreath (or any Styrofoam wreath)
2 skeins of yarn (I chose one variegated and one solid)
Size N crochet hook
Size H crochet hook

Start by attaching a slip knot to your size N hook and wrapping the yarn through the center of the wreath, yarn over and draw up a loop (single crochet)

You're now going to alternate feeding the yarn from the back of the wreath, single crocheting,

then feeding it through the center of the wreath and single crocheting

continue single crocheting all the way around the wreath til your stitches meet back up at the beginning, it'll make a pretty heart pattern along the ridge

before you join back up to the first loop, count all your stitches on top and make sure it's divisible by 5 (because the scallop edge is worked in groups of 5)
for the scallop edge work *1 slip stich, 1 double crochet, 5 double crochets in same stitch, 1 double crochet and skip one stitch* repeat from * to * all along edge
join with slip stitch at the beginning
For the flowers:
chain 31
sc in 2nd chain from hook, *chain 2, skip 1, sc in next stich*, repeat from * to *.  You should have 15 chain two spaces.  Turn work.  Slip stitch into chain two space, work 3 half double crochets in same chain 2 space, slip stitch in same chain 2 space, slip stitch over into next chain 2 space and work 4 half double crochets, slip stitch into same chain two space.  Keep increasing in each chain 2 space remembering to slip stitch into and out of each chain two space (it'll help your petals look better)
For leaves,(you will be working on both sides of the foundation chain)
chain 10, sc in 2nd chain from hook, hdc in next stitch, dc in next stitch, 3 treble crochets in next 3 stitches, dc in next stitch, hcd in next stitch and 3 sc in next stitch working over to the other side of the leaf. Working up the backbone of the foundation again, hdc in next stich, dc in next stitch, 3 treble crochets in next 3 stitches, dc in next stich, hdc in next stitch, sc in next stitch, slip stitch into last stitch. Attach your flowers to your wreath as you like, hang it and enjoy!
Peace and blessings!
Beth
