1  Re: 50 Projects 2015 --POST YOUR 2015 Lists in Craftalongs by underthemountain on: January 28, 2015 02:08:39 PM
When did you first get into crafting?  Do you have a fond memory of one of the first things you ever made?  How did you feel about making something? Do you have any pictures of your project or of you at that time?

When I was 12!  Yes, my first ring.  Awesome.  I actually have that ring.

Here's my list of what I need to make this year!
1. Steampunk jewelry for fun and profit!  Smiley
2. copper plating (need to do this!)
3. embroidery machine projects--any, really need to try out the machine still
4. knit hats for the family
5. knit cowls, really loving cowls these days and need to make more
6. quilt from scraps for summertime

Wanted to share a few pieces I made recently

2  Re: FOC Second Chance Wishlist Swap 2015 GALLERY! in The Swap Gallery by underthemountain on: January 22, 2015 02:23:02 PM
First off I was so happy to be chosen by Lo{ve} because she carved me and Lana an amazing Totoro stamp a few years back and second I was happy because I love surprises.

Anyhow our package from Lo{ve} came today and when I flipped it over I saw this first off and my heart started racing with anticipation!  OMG, could it be?

I tore in and was not disappointed. A wonderful Catbus stamp!!!  Totoro will be so happy to see him!  And Lo also made us awesome name stamps that she used on our letter!  Eek!

And if that wasn't enough wonderfulness she made us amazing Totoro and owl hats!  If you read the letter you'll see that she decided to spoil us each with a hat of our own since she wanted to keep both of our heads warm.  Smiley  Thank you for being so thoughtful!

Action shots!  I had to rotate these and they came out tiny.  Hopefully you can tell from Lana's face how much they are LOVED!

Guess you can see why her name is Lo{ve} because she puts lots of love into her packages.
Thank you Lo!

Hey Rox, the balance is perfect on this thing, how did you manage that?
Hehe, it's an ancient Chinese secret.  LOL!

I received from Averia and was wowed!  Smiley  Lookie at all my new lovely handcarved stamps.

I can't wait to make some bee cards and some personalized business cards with my awesome camera stamp!  Smiley

Thanks Laura!

Details of swap: (thanks to Dulcinea and Sevsonlygirl!)
This is a swap for the geezers.  The idea here is that we've all been crafting for eons, and are pretty good at what we do.

This is also a swap where there is a sizeable commitment, both for time, and resources.  We are going to be crafting one really big, really nice item for our partner.  If you cannot commit to the time or resources, please consider carefully before signing up for this swap.

You'll make up a list of 5-10 large things that you would love if someone made for you.  You'll also make up a list of 5-10 things that you're really good at, that you'd love to make for your fellow geezers.  And if you can make it from your stash, and reduce the stash, making room for more, NEW stash, so much the better.

What's a large item, you ask?  generally, we're talking something that takes 3 or more hours, is large in physical size, or costs $30 or more in materials (or any combination of those).

You need to post to this thread, so that it comes up as unread replies if I have something to tell y'all.

I will not tolerate flakers.  We all will have two months to craft and send out.  That should be enough time.  A DC or Customs number is required, if available.  If you do not have a DC or Customs number, you MUST send me a scan of your postal receipt, showing that the package was sent out.

If you are a week late sending (after the sendout date), you will receive a temporary negative.  This will be changed back to In Progress upon proof of sending.

If you want to participate, information to send to organizer:

5  Simple photo ornaments in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by underthemountain on: December 31, 2014 07:08:58 AM
Hi all!
Every year I try to make photo ornaments for my family.  They love photos so I usually do this and photo mugs.  Anyhow just wanted to share them with you.

Mini tut: I started with 3" wood ornaments from ACMoore/Michaels.   The picture part is roughly 2" x 2".  I painted the ornaments black with acrylic paint.  Then printed out photos to size.  (Note the cut off edges on the wood blocks: to figure out where to cut them I pressed them around the corners.  Each of the blocks were different so it wasn't as simple as just taking a measurement.)  Finally I used rubber cement to adhere them to the block.  I've since added some nice red grosgrain ribbon to them.

Here's the group for my mom, my sis, my brother, and us.  Each has the names of the family members on the back and various photos of them.  My fav is my mom's with her 4 grandkids.  Smiley

a closeup so that you can see how they meet up between block faces.

I liked the way they turned out and will have my eyes open for new block designs next Christmas.
Thanks for looking!
Roxanne

lovely PW! Smiley

Would there be any interest in a chain maille captured bracelet?  I made these recently and still have the burgundy one.  The other I gave to our Kumu's wife for her Bday. These have no clasp, the chain maille flexes so that it can just rolll on over your hand.  I can make the insides with a custom color.  I'm using Czech faceted beads for the insides so it's nice and reflective.

Just finished a 2 chain maille captured bracelets. One is burgundy (bottom) and the other is red, dark red, burgundy mix.  These have no clasp, the chain maille flexes so that it can just rolll on over your hand.
