1  Craftster Card Swap (SignUps 7/15/16-7/29/16, Sendouts 8/15/16) in Craft Swaps by underthemountain on: July 15, 2016 07:46:35 AM

This is the first ever (and hopefully not the last) Crafster Card Swap.  This swap was inspired by the What do you look like thread on the Crafster Off-Topic Chit Chat and the awesome Crafster Canada Meetup in July that made me want to find out more about my Crafster friends!  The idea is to make a card all about you, kinda like a baseball card, but even more awesome.  You can reproduce your card or create new ones for each of your partners.  You can craft it from any material, but make sure that it is sturdy and that it will fit into a card sleeve if you are using different materials.  Please use both the front and backsides of your card to tell us all about you!

There are some basic requirements that should be on your card:
Size of the card: Should be the standard ATC 2.5" x3.5"
Front side: should include your image (can be done as a photo, drawing, painting, digitally altered, completely up to you!) and your Crafster name
Back side: can include your interests, your real name, address, etc. ..whatever you are comfortable with; you can even write a poem.  Completely open!

Thanks to rockingbearbranch .  I used her wonderful ATC swap as a template.  Grin

So at the epic Craftsters Meetup in Canada, Alwaysinmyroom held a wonderful workshop on shibori.  It was wonderful and my mom and Lana wanted to do more as soon as we got back home.  Here's the results from day 1!

and some close ups of my favorite bits....

The dye is good for a week so we're busy prepping more goodies....

Thank you Always for teaching us a new craft!  Lana is still very keen on making a purse from the fabric she made with you!  Smiley

That's supercool LadybugsAndBumblebees!  The pizzas look esp yummy.

Lana loves to bake and made these for our 4th of July celebration from scratch. They were very good.  Smiley

Hope everyone had a Happy 4th!

It was a really cold day yoopidou.  The guys wearing the malos were freezing.  LOL.

Always, I bet you treasure that shave ice machine.

Barely counts as crafting, but I thought I'd share the goodie bags for Lana's Bday today.  She and her friends are going to see the movies so I put movie candy, silly putty, pop rocks, ring pops, and a cute turtle bracelet into these bandanas.  Trying to be a little earth friendly with reusable wrapping.

Hehe, yes Yooupidou!  We were in the ceremony that greeted the Hokule'a as it came into Alexandria.  This is a snap I got!  Watch us dance here!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8bsyGFEtbFI You can see Hokule'a in the background.

Made tons of spam musubi for the long day of dancing....

The following week we went to tour the boat and met the crew, Nainoa Thompson gave a speech at the NIH the next day which was fantastic! and we were part of the celebration at NMAI this past weekend...the Cazimeros came to perform!!!  But the coolest thing is that our Kumu is the guardian of the Ku at the Peabody Museum in Boston and there will be a Hokule'a performance there featuring our halau in July!  I'm not sure if we can go anymore because Lana got into a STEAM camp and the performance is on the first day.  Sad

Anyhow to keep it crafty here are some of the hats I've been making for the Newborns In Need project.  Lana is going to be making some stuffies to go along with them sometime this summer.

OMG!  What an explosion of wonderfulness.

The leis are wonderful yoopidou!  Been immersed in serious hula dancing this month with the Hokule'a's arrival in DC.  Our halau has crafted various leis for it.

It's hard to get fresh ti leaves here out in D.C.  LOL.

love it all!  the hats are fantabulous!

I'm posting a photo of our Difference Makers auction.  I made the placards and think that should count as an item because they took a long time to make.  Smiley
A big thanks to all the Craftsters that donated their talents to help us raise some much needed funds! Shouts out to alwaysinmyroom, Onyxnox, Abbeeroad, kbrison, thisbirdsabsurd, BeaG, LovelyMiss, Bunny1kenobi, plaidpineapple, ptarmic wumpus, texscrapper, Sheepblue!!! Thank you all so much!  If you are curious as to what they all made check out the DM Facebook link in my signature.  Hopefully they also will share what they made.  It was AMAZING!

OMG!!! We had a very successful auction thanks to all of you!!!!  I'm only posting 2 shots here, but if you go to our Facebook page you can see closeups!  The smaller items I used for a BIN table for the kids and the larger items went into the auction.  Everyone went bonkers over the hand crafted stuff.  I kept hearing responses like, "No way!  Someone made this?"  They were even more jazzed when I told them that you all are professionals and doing this for fun.  They loved hearing about Craftsters.  It was an amazing night.  Thank you  all so much for your love and support.  I truly couldn't have done it without you.  We had nice donations from restaurants, etc., but the art stuffs were very much appreciated by everyone.  I won Bonnie's resin pendant and the tee that Summer made!  Yay!!  Everyone LOVED the chicken and they petted it to death!  It went to a very nice home, but unfortunately the media teacher got outbid. Deanna's and Abigail's jewelry, Emma's screenprinted and sewn items (my friend got your Dr. Who scarf for her daughter); Linda's chapsticks and Bea's crocheted balls were also a huge hit, as were Ashley coin pouches and Nikki's felted items.  I wish you could have been there in person to witness how much everything was loved and oo'd and ah'd about.
Thank you all so much!  Your support really means the world to me!

The monies you helped raise are going to be used for craft supplies/tools, and van maintence.

Lana is running 2 craft-a-longs with her chorus on Mon/Tues.  Check us out on Facebook to see what we're doing.

What kind of craft supplies/tools?  Some of us might be able to help out there as well as giving finished items.

Aw, thank you Kathy!  You have such a big heart!  Smiley  I will let you know once plans are more firmly in place.  Bryan just discovered that I can craft a little.  LOL.  The first thing we are working on is pinatas for Extraordinary Birthdays.  I will help them with that on Wed. Lana is  a pinata pro so I'm sure they really won't need my help.  After this they are probably going to focus on making stuffies for a while.  I'm going to see if they want to help with my pillows for the NIH Children's Inn.  They only need to be stuffed with fiber fill and sewn up.  My personal thoughts are that DM should learn how to make jewelry that they can use to help charities like Extraordinary Birthdays and either sell or auction off.  If we go that route then simple jewelry tools are probably the most need item.  I have fabrics to share with them if they aren't too picky.  I would love to teach them how to make bibs for their Newborns in Need projects.  Smiley  There are so many fun possibilites, tie dyed/bleached tees to sell, knitting/crocheting hats for vets/babies, sewn items.  I can't wait!!!  Smiley

Congrats Freakie!!!!  Lucius is ADORABLE!  Smiley

This isn't my craft, but I wanted to share.  Smiley Lana designed 2.5" buttons for Difference Makers Global Youth Services Day on April 16.  Youth from around the world are united in community service on this day.  DM has a huge list of organizations they'll be supporting for this day and throughout the month of April.  All students participating will be receiving a button.  Smiley
