1  Craft Swaps / ACTIVE SWAPS WHERE SIGN-UP PERIOD HAS CLOSED / Re: Little Visitor Swap- Round 21 (SU till 03/24 or full, SO 03/30 and 09/30) on: March 17, 2015 07:18:37 PM
Hmmm, I was thinking of taking a break, but this round actually starts early enough that the visitor would probably get to go to a timeline re-enactment (April 18-19)! Re-enactments are always in the gap between rounds, so I've never been able to bring an LV along. They'd also get to go to MD sheep & wool, a conference in the absolute middle of nowhere West Virginia, a bunch of longship voyages, the Kennedy Center, and Felter's Fling in Massachusetts. (Plus DC, of course)

Will ponder...

Rupert arrived home yesterday from his visit with waterbaby!

Here he is in his box of goodies!

His box was padded with comfy fiber to keep him warm on his trip (and for me to felt with later)!

He brought back a bunch of tasty snacks - chocolate candies, tasty teas, and homemade crackers:

waterbaby made a nifty tea mug rug to go with all that tea, plus Rupert brought souvenirs from the Santa Ana Race Track and LA Public Library as well as an army of jumping frogs!

Rupert found a new friend in LA - Bryan the moose!

Not only did Rupert get a scrapbook, he also got a dvd of his video adventures! We are going to have movie night next week Smiley

Rupert showed me some of his adventures from his scrapbook - here he is working on the set of Grey's Anatomy! He thinks his name will be in the credits, but I'm not so sure...

He brought brochures from tons of places he visited, plus a pretty agate necklace from the Griffith Observatory

Thanks for showing Rupert all around town, waterbaby!

I had to get the postcard miniatures as soon as I saw the tiny secret service agents Smiley

The bowls are wet felted straight from fiber - Alby helped laying out the fibers, but he just watched the felting process because it is, well, wet Smiley The inner layers of wool are black dyed fibers, the outer layers are other colors - you can look closely and see where the black fibers migrate to the outside and the color fibers migrate to the inside.  They are a big stiff when dry, but you can also flip them inside out if you want.

I hope the chip bags didn't explode in transit - sometimes they pop open when flying (or just driving over a mountain pass). I used to bring chips back from DC when I lived in Colorado, and usually lost a bag or two even if I brought them in carry-on....

Alby is on his way home! Hopefully he will  make it onto a plane before it starts snowing tomorrow.

I have one more photo to show, which was taken over the holidays at my parents house with their cat, Agent Orange. Orange was nearly 20 and had to be put to sleep this morning, so I thought I'd share this pic of Alby and Orange hanging out on the sofa:

Alby is all packed up and ready to go! Hopefully there won't be a line at the post office when it opens at 9 am, because I have to make a 9:30 meeting at work, and I don't think he wants to wait in my car until lunch...

All of my plans for the past two weeks were cancelled due to weather, including a trip to Baltimore yesterday. Alby has been stuck at home for quite a while.

Instead of seeing the sights, he helped to cook

and made this berry custard tart

He also tried his hand at wet felting

And learned how to set in sleeves

Tomorrow there is going to be more sleet and freezing rain. And then it will likely snow on Thursday. So, he is going to get packed up and try to make it to the post office on Wednesday when it is just raining. I think he will be glad to be back in CA after the past few weeks!

It has been cold and stupidly snowing, so all the interesting stuff we were going to do this weekend (and most of last weekend) got cancelled. Alby has mostly been hanging around the house - here he is napping with Bertie:

The good thing is that we got a chance to get most of his album finished while stuck inside yesterday...
8  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Re: 2015 Shop the Swap discussion thread on: February 16, 2015 04:20:16 PM
I can't remember what the tentative dates were that we discussed before but the previous Spring STS in 2014 had a sign up March 15 to April 5 and was open until May 10 (last week of May 3-10 for under/over shops)  How do these dates sound for this year's Spring Market?

I'm a maybe - this time period is actually the most insane time of year for my schedule, which means it is really hard for me to get to the post office on time and is pretty much impossible to make new stuff during the swap.

Alby is coming to work with me this week - I think we're not allowed to take photos of most of the interesting stuff, but there are some outreach displays in the lobby, like the hyperwall:

Alby visited the Capitol today! It is undergoing repairs and is not so photogenic.

He also saw a lot of neat plants at the US Botanic Gardens, like these lemons

And stopped by the Hirshhorn modern art gallery, where there was lots of weird stuff, like this giant sculpture made from mesh and syrofoam beads.

Tons more pictures on his blog (link in signature)!
