Kartiana - as ever your gifts are just incredible, I love your style! My favourites are the clothes pins and the ruffle apron.. if I had to pick!!

whitterp's sendings also look great! I'd love to see more pictures!! that button hoop looks really clever, and I wanna see more of that shirt - what a gorgeous colour!

ok here we go! Photos of stunningness from Samsara coming up Cheesy

Samsara really spoiled me, it was amazing to get gifts which were handmade by someone just for me Smiley great introduction to swapping (proper swapping, rather than ATCs and little visitors which is as far as I'd ventured until now). And I feel she paired me up with exactly the right person Wink so happy to read you used what you had for this swap. I have too! Nothing bought at all.

right - first the extras (save large for last!) Samsara correct me if I get these in the wrong order, the letter got lost in unwrapping goodness!!

She sent me some excellent incense and a candle - did you make this yourself?

Now the smalls, one very yummy smelling sugar scrub, and a bracelet, AND and anklet! Which fit perfectly, thank you!

The mediums were just incredible, there was a hoop, which she said was her first try trying one but I don't believe here Wink it's too professional!! And also a glass tea light holder she's made for me, which is stunning and now lives on my meditation table.

And the large was an incredibly well made yoga bag, which has a strap so i can take it on the bike with me or on a walk, perfect!! It's so simple, and the gold reminds me of my childhood - I lived in a very multicultural area and my best friend was muslim, this bag is exactly her style and makes me smile everytime I look at it Cheesy I'm also really  happy it has lots of space to sew on extra gifts I may get in future swaps (hint hint everyone!!) - I love sewn badges, and some hippy badges might be brilliant. hehe! I even love that it's nice and roomy, so space for an extra padded mat, or a change of clothes too. AWESOME

great panorama whenindoubtsew and love the masks Mountains and Clouds

Scarlett came along to my 5k "Race for Life" to cheer me on - My friend (cut out the pic for privacy) and I raised 370 and still counting for Cancer Research, so feeling super good about that! But! It was 31 degrees (89 Fahrenheit) - which is a heat unheard of in England, and the run was TOUGH!  With a finishing time of 41mins, I ran for 6 minutes longer than my aim.. which is obviously great because I can beat my pb easy next time!! Wink

Scarlett told me she would have preferred if I had worn red - but it would have accentuated my inevitable sunburn later in the day!

phoenixfiredesigns - I definitely want to see more of the sunken gardens!

Natasjadreams - Antwerp - D'ood is getting a seriously cultural trip, lucky thing!

Alexampersandra - you must be very excited with the new library!

waterbaby - very very pretty trees!

AD and Adi - Is adorable! Are they long distance and writing love letters to each other? Or do we get to see a date!

And here is our something local photo for this week:

Well, local to our journey anyway! We passed stonehenge, and it was too good of an opportunity to miss!

"Did you know...

Stonehenge was constructed in three phases.
It has been estimated that the three phases of the construction required more than thirty million hours of labour.
Speculation on the reason it was built range from human sacrifice to astronomy.

Age estimated at 3100 BC
Location Wiltshire, UK
OS Reference SU 122 422
Type of stone Bluestone, Sarsen, Welsh Sandstone
Worship Lunar, Solar"
more information can be found here

Plenty more photos of Scarlett checking out my Aunt's garden can be found on my blog post

Hiya!

Good question. I have some pointers for you!

1) For small items, try this (or mirror image obviously!) set up on a cloudy day/8am/4pm - aka not bright sunlight 0 your apartment actually sounds perfect for this!:

The idea is to not have too much direct light from behind your camera on your piece, this "flattens" the item - due to a lack of natural shadow. The backing boards can be as simple as white cardboard painted white, or covered in white/cream (cream is my preference) paper. I have a big A3 sheet that comes down and becomes the 'floor' too:

The main point of the extra (unseen) backing board is to reflect natural light back at the piece from the other direction, instead of this light getting lost in the room. Have a go with and without the board and you'll see a huge difference in the shadows, they soften and it makes the camera's job a lot easier - it's no longer focusing it's contrast based on shadows, but instead on your item itself.

Here's an example of a photo I took when I had just started using this method.

2) If you have any preset "scene" options on your camera, and you want to use a white background, try out "Snow" or "Winter" - it works amazingly well to combat the problems you experience with white backgrounds

3) Try getting the floor to be white - you can see the difference the floor is making in your own photos! I think because the camera thinks the floor is the darkest point, and other colours can get washed out in comparison. Or in your case it could be that your shiny floor is reflecting too much light back at the camera, and it's underexposing to adjust for this! To do this, get models to pose on a double sheet which you've hung from the ceiling (or above your photo height) and covers the portion of the floor which will be photographed.

Good luck - I'd love to see some photos after you've given some of my ideas a go!

10  Whisky v 2.0 in Felting: Completed Projects by PaperBeau on: June 15, 2013 11:48:36 AM
Ok! I think I'm starting to get the hang of this needle felting, and just one needle casualty!

He's meant to be running in the air - but that level of realism is a while off yet. I think he looks sweet and I'm very happy with the extra detail I managed this time. Especially the sparkles in his eyes! Here's a close up..

And the inspiration
