I like to set my Christmas Eve table with placecards for everyone, preferably one that doubles as an ornament they can take home. This year, I found a great little ceramic snowman at Michaels, and at 60% off, they were only eighty cents apiece! I'm hosting a dinner in December for my book club, so they'll be getting these too.
All you need to personalize these is Sharpie pens and/or paint pens. I used a Sharpie for the nose and to write the names and dates, and a paint pen for the buttons, eyes, and red band around the hat. Tie a scrap of ribbon around the neck so your snowman stays warm, and you're done! I like to use different ribbons for members of the same family for more variety on the tree. HELPFUL HINT: Write the name and date on the ornament first, and then you can center the buttons and face so they'll be perfect every time.
Here's what the ornament looks like undecorated. His little bottom is not flat, so I purchased a bag of miniature wreaths for the snowmen to sit on when they're being used as placecards.
