1  HOME SWEET HOME / Exterior Decorating / Yard Art / Gardening: Discussion and Questions / Hedge's - Yay or Nay? on: April 16, 2014 06:22:23 PM
So to make a long story short I do not like hedge rows like we have in our front yard. I think they make the house look boring and dated. I originally wanted to rip every other one out and then cut the ones left to be smaller and rounder. But I was told by a guy with a lot more yard experience then me that since our hedges have grown together for so long that when I ripped them out the ones that are left will not recover like I want them to. He suggested just ripping them all out and starting with a blank slate, which sound like a nice idea but expensive.

Enter my dilemma, we are planning on moving in a few years so I want something that is going to be nice and neutral enough to attract buyers and I don't want to sink a lot of money into landscaping (we need to be saving for the big move instead).

Here is my humble abode so you can get an idea of what I mean.

I should also add that I am going to be painting the door and shutters a nice bright blue so I am hoping that will help with my case of boring house.

So I thought I would turn to you lovely folks, what do you think? Is my opinion totally wrong and hedgerows rock? Any other suggestions then the ones mentioned?

Also I am in southwest GA so most plants grow great here if that effects anyone's suggestion/opinion.

4  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Celtic cable hooded scarf (Yay I'm finished!! Pic heavy) on: October 06, 2013 11:53:49 AM
My Husband really liked a hood I made myself that had some basic cables and asked me if I could make similar one for him. Only he wanted a hooded scarf and a different hood shape and for the cables to meet up differently. So a totally different project.

I found this pattern http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/simple-celtic-cable on ravelry and loved it. Although I have done several patterns with cables they were no where this advanced. When I first started the project I had to have silence and it still took me almost 15 minutes to finish a row. It took me a year to finish the whole thing, working off and on, mostly off. I even blocked this project, I feel so accomplished  Cheesy

The scarf portion is a basic 6 stitch twist cable (I don't know if it has a proper name), the Celtic cable then another twist cable, I also did a few rows of seed stitch along the ends. The hood is seed stitch with a braid cable along the bottom. I finished it all up with a single crochet around the edges. Overall I am very happy with it, the only thing I would do differently is I would leave more stitches between the twist cable and the Celtic cable. I put 2 purl stitches and I think it looks smooshed even after blocking.

I used 6 skeins of Lions Brand Alpine Wool in Barley color.

All layed out

Sushi approves

I put so much work in this I am tempted to move to a colder climate just so my Husband can wear it more often. We live in south GA and we are still having 80 degree days, I worked up a sweat just modeling it to take the pictures  Roll Eyes
5  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Supernatural and War Eagle stamped necklaces on: February 28, 2011 12:52:15 PM
Two necklaces inspired by Supernatural. If you've never seen it well it's a show about two brothers(very hot brothers) Dean and Sam, fighting supernatural things (ghosts, demons, vampires, etc). Dean and Sam often come up against ghosts and evil spirits and the way to get rid of them is so salt and burn the beings remains.

I recently graduated from Auburn University, and wanted something to commemorate it. But I didn't like the school rings and a pendent I found I liked was out of my price range so I decided to make my own.

Thanks for looking! They're my first stamped pieces other then just practicing on some washers.

8  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Half way through the giant pile of clothes (Pic obese) on: July 01, 2010 07:19:03 PM
I'm in the 50 projects-along, one of my items was to recon the pile of T's and such that was taking up space. So I set down to complete this item only to end up pulling another pile of clothes out of my fabric stash, meaning the pile is about the same size as when I started *big huge sigh*

Anyways here's my progress so far, few or no before shots, sorry.

St Pattys Day, a bit late or a bit early. Had some random little holes around the bottom, two shamrocks later.

More random holes but this time around the top. Keyhole top, used whatthecraft.com tute

I wanted to put this one in the scrap pile, actually it was for a night but I dug it back out.

Nothing special, cute goodwill top with to tight sleeves so I cut them off.

I made this one (gathered/weird hippy shirt before) based on one of my fave tops that got an ink stain (next shirt)

Covered ink stains with a bird on a stick

Before, my Papa's old undershirts (very special to me, he passed away about 8 years ago)

After, ruffle goodness. Used this tute http://tearosehome.blogspot.com/2010/01/tutorial-sweater-to-make-believe-tweed.html

Close up of the ruffles and the lace of the tank. I made this shirt specifically for this tank.

And why my Hubby is not allowed to take pics of me. Everyone he takes I look like a blimp  Roll Eyes It says "if I throw a stick will you leave" Nothing really wrong with it I just decided I wanted it to be a tank, combined with an old T with ink stains.

whew yeah and I also mended about 6 other items in the pile and made organizing boxes and took apart a jacket for tote bag. Yeah same size pile...

10  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Boondock Saints??? on: March 12, 2010 09:45:12 PM
Come on! I bet over half of you can quote the whole movie!

I know I'm not the only boondock fan. I searched "boondock saints" and didn't come up with any swap, I'm shock that it didn't.

After listening to some fellow fans quote some memoriable moments in technical writing I know I'm not the only fan.

Soooo.....Who's in?
