1  Favorite Book Swap in New Swap Theme Ideas by Wizards_Pupil on: April 05, 2016 12:58:56 PM

In the past there has been an awesome swap were you and your partner sent eachother your favorite books, and a few crafted items based on the books sent and received. For instance, lets say I loved Little Women and my partner loved Pride and Prejudice. I would send her a copy of Little Women, a craft inspired by that book, (Like a notebook based on Jo's character) and an item inspired by Pride and Prejudice. (Lets say Jewelry Liz might wear.) We could decide on the amount of items we think would be a good idea, and how many books we'd like to send.

Does that sound like fun to anyone else? I'm thinking all craft skills would be allowed. (Crocheting, Knitting, Sewing, Embroidery, Paper Crafts, Jewelry, Sculpting, etc.)

I'm so glad you liked the bookmarks Cheesy It took forever to sketch out those swords.

I received from Quantumphysica a few days ago but forgot to post pictures of my fabulous loot:

A terrific Hobbit inspired bookmark with the first page of the book behind Bilbo's silhouette. (It's a printed copy, no actual copies of the book were harmed, thankfully!)

A beautifully detailed bookmark made after a design on Arwen's dress Smiley (The one she wore in the chase scene in FOTR)
Here's an image of the dress with a detail shot of where the design came from:

Thank you so much!

A fun ribbon bookmark that says "Follow your dreams"

A metal bookmark with a lovely little heart that says "Embrace Story Time" (Sage advice!)

A fun pom-pom bookmark

And it came with an adorable card as well Smiley

Thank you so much!

4  Time for another Embroidery Hoop swap? in New Swap Theme Ideas by Wizards_Pupil on: September 28, 2015 09:01:36 AM

Anyone interested in doing another Embroidery Hoop swap? It seems like it has been a while since I've seen one up. I wouldn't mind hosting it if no one else was interested.

Here are a few theme ideas we could consider as well:

Abstract
History/Vintage
Maps
Magical/Fantastical
Monochromatic
Books/Stories
Patchwork
Lettering

Any sound particularly fun, or any type you'd like to see?

Does anyone have a favourite bookcover?

Ach! The dangers of falling asleep in bed. I'm eternally bonking my poor nose. Ever actually fallen asleep on one?

I'll have to post a picture with a few I'm particularly fond of tonight. Smiley What about yours?

I did! lol, woke up next morning with it laying on my pillow. I believe it was a harry potter one Cheesy Aaah the good days! Cheesy
My fav one is the cover of the bookthief. (not the film one) http://bit.ly/1MdWbP5

Still deciding... I have way to many ideas... luckily I'm swapping 3 bookmarks with each of my partners! yay ^^

Ouch! Harry tends to be on the heavy side. That would have hurt to be hit with.

Lovely cover. I tend to be a bit biased about photographed ones. I adore a good photo. Here are a few I particularly like:

Love reading? Hate folding corners, losing your place? Always using the nearest slip of paper to hold your spot? Then this swap is for you! Open for all book lovers to finally get something to hold their positions in the books they're enjoying.

This swap is open to people in every country, and is a great way to try out swapping internationally, without a lot of cost.  To those of you who automatically say you do not wish to ship to a country outside your own, please consider it on this one!!! You will only be mailing an envelope and the costs would be much less than in a traditional swap.  Think about how much fun it will be to get international mail!  And think about how sad you would be as an international crafter, if no one ever wanted to swap with you!  Also remember that you would NOT receive ALL international swappers.

It is A LOT cheaper to ship international on a bookmark swap. You're only shipping envelopes, so even three will be under $5.

For a wonderful swap experience, communication is always the key.  Please keep in touch with your partners and organizer.  If you are accepted into the swap, I will PM you, and add you to the participant list.  Once partners have been assigned, you may craft your bookmarks and send as early as you wish.  All swaps on Craftster, requires the use of tracking, but this is not possible when sending letters or sending internationally.  Since you can't get tracking for these, feedback will be based on if your partner received or not.  YOU MUST PM YOUR PARTNER AND WIZARDS_PUPIL WHEN YOU SEND AND RECEIVE.

If your bookmark is not received after three weeks, you will need to re-craft and send another one to avoid negative feedback.

Extras may be sent between partners but BOTH MUST AGREE TO THIS!! No one wants to feel bad for getting a boatload of extras but not sending any

IN ADDITION:
- You must post in this thread at least once a week.
- You must post in this thread before you can join the swap.
- All announcements will be made here so please bookmark this page
- Please try to create a package that you are proud of and you think your partner will enjoy receiving – do some research!
- Remember to take pictures, just in case your partner is unable to.
- Keep your receipts
- Make sure you PM the organizer and your partner when you send and receive
- PM organizer with any other problems right away!

8  Craft for Good (And Not Evil) Swap in New Swap Theme Ideas by Wizards_Pupil on: August 08, 2015 07:07:56 AM

So, I had an idea for a different kind of swap and was wondering if it was something that might interest anyone. The basic idea would be that each swapper would pick a particular charity/NPO that they like/support. Then the partners would craft an item to be donated to their partner's charity/NPO.

Does this seem like a fun idea? The swappers could include an item for their partner as well.

10  Fedora (With a Pattern) in Crochet: Completed Projects by Wizards_Pupil on: September 26, 2014 06:46:22 PM
Its been raining pretty much nonstop where Im at for two weeks now, and its really messing with my hair. I love to walk in the rain, but Im getting a little tired of looking like a wet dog. So I decided to make a hat, but Im tired of tight fitting hats, and I wanted something with a brim. Voila! Fedora happened.

It needs a chunky weight yarn, but I NEVER have any so I used to strands of worsted weight. Its what I always do whenever I dont have chunky. I chose black and gray because theyre the two things most prominent in my wardrobe.

So here we go!

Fashionably Fabulous Fedora

Hook: J
Yarn: chunky 10 strand, or two 4 strands.

Abbreviations:
Sc = Single crochet
Sp = space
Ch = chains

PATTERN:
Rd1: ch2, 10 sc in the 1st ch. Join in beginning stitch. -10 stitches
Rd2: ch1, 2sc in next stitch, 2sc in each stitch around. -20stitches
Rd3: ch1, 2sc in first stitch, *single sc in next stitch, 2sc in next stitch,* repeat from * to * around. -30 stitches
Rd4: ch1, 2sc in first stitch, *single sc in next two stitches, 2sc in next stitch,* repeat from * to * around. -40 stitches
Rd5: ch1, 2sc in first stitch, *single sc in next three stitches, 2sc in next stitch,* repeat from * to * around. -50 stitches
Rd6: ch1, sc in each stitch around. -50 stitches
Rd7: ch1, 2sc in first stitch, *single sc in next four stitches, 2sc in next stitch,* repeat from * to * around. -60 stitches
Rd8: ch1, sc in each stitch around. -60 stitches
Rd9: ch1, 2sc in first stitch, *single sc in next five stitches, 2sc in next stitch,* repeat from * to * around. -70 stitches
Rd10: ch1, sc in each stitch around. -70 stitches
Rd 11: ch1, 2sc in first stitch, *single sc in next six stitches, 2sc in next stitch,* repeat from * to * around. -80 stitches
Rd 12: ch1, sc in each stitch around. -80 stitches
Rd 13: ch1, 2sc in first stitch, *single sc in next seven stitches, 2sc in next stitch,* repeat from * to * around. -90 stitches
Rd 14: ch1, sc in each stitch around. -90 stitches
Rd 15 25 (add more here for a longer hat) : ch1, sc in each stitch around. -90 stitches

Now we can have some fun. You can make a different color band, or just go straight into the brim.

For the band:
Rd 26: (if you want a different color join here) ch2, dc in back loop only, in each stitch around. -90 stitches

(If you want a thicker color band, do another row, but do it through both loops.)

For the brim:
Rd 27: ch1, in back loops only,  sc in next three stitches, 2sc in next stitch, *sc in next four stitches, 2sc in next stitch,* repeat * to * around. -108 stitches
Rd 28-29: ch1, sc in each stitch around. -108 stitches
Rd 30: ch1, sc in next four stitches, 2sc in next stitch, *sc in next five stitches, 2sc in next stitch,* repeat * to * around. -126 stitches
Rd 31-34: ch1, sc in each stitch around. -126 stitches
Rd 35: ch1, sc in next five stitches, 2sc in next stitch, *sc in next six stitches, 2sc in next stitch* repeat * to * around. -144 stitches
Rd 36: ch1, sc in each stitch around. -144 stitches.
Fasten off and weave in the ends.

Now, fold the back brim up, and push down the top of the hat. Pinch it at the front and wear you new, fabulous fedora!
