Hi all from the Owen County Indiana area! I've just created a new meetup group to help us all get our crafting selves organized! This meetup group is completely free to members, and if you're interested in coming, we'd love to have you!
If you love crafts and meeting new people (or hanging with old friends), this is the place for you! We'll have creative and crafty activities each month---projects to keep our hands busy while our heads work on all the talking! Get ready for creative goodness and delightful relaxation!
HAND-CARVED STAMPS FOR THE HAND-CARVED STAMP SWAP--ROUND 4
So, here it is, short and sweet: I *love* to hand-carve stamps. Love love LOVE. So every now and then I'll host a hand-carved stamp swap. Just to get my groove on. [And, ooo, do we have *ripping* fun when that swap rolls around, just in case you haven't had a chance to participate! (hint hint hint)]
In the interest of full-disclosure---these were made for *nine* separate partners, but all as part of one swap---so if this doesn't fit under the "one project with multiple components clause" of the Craftster Challenge rules, I am happy to bow out!
And, yes, I do get obsessive and feel compelled to package all my stampies in little baggies.
And for those of you who are thrilled with the idea of hand-carving stamps, check out the link to our most recent swap Hand-Carved Stamp Swap--Round 5. The swap information section is chockety full of hand-carving info, links, and fun times! [Yes, tragically, this swap has been completed! But I may be getting the urge to start up another one].
Okay, ha ha---talk about talking up a swap! lol [Bad WideEyedLife! Bad bad bad!]
And on that note: May the Gods of Hand-Carved Stamping smile upon you!
Finally had time to update the thread... whew! You guys have been busy
I'm sorry the updates are so rare lately... we had to renovate our workspace rather unexpectedly since all our fancy shelves decided to fall down tearing wallpaper and large chunks of wall down with them, and right now, large parts of our apartment feel something like this:
(not my actual room - mine looks even worse!)
I will have even less time the upcoming months, and have been thinking of handing over the torch in October. I'll host September's swap, but someone will have to take over after that. We'll be traveling again almost the whole month, and I don't think I'll be able to keep up. If anyone feels like stepping up, just send me a pm!
Ha ha ha! That is so freaking AWESOME! LOVE LOVE LOVE YOUR MESS! I can't believe you've had time to do anything atcs with such a huge project--not to mention the traveling! WOW.
My completed project (I just can't get this photo to show up any larger!)
So, I started this project in 2005 (yes, folks, 2005), and FINALLY FINISHED! "What took so long?" one might ask. "Sure, it's a GIGANTIC cross-stitch project, but still---9 years?!"
Well, what took so long was my strange obsession with not following the pattern. *ha ha*
This kit, based on Charles Wysocki's painting Frederick the Literate, had, I noticed, lost something in translation from painting to cross-stitch pattern.
The original Wysocki painting
The original pattern (close-ups are of areas of the pattern that I ultimately altered to be less blocky, or I changed the titles of)
So, to make it more like the original, I free-drew the parts I didn't like, using thread as the medium---which meant I wasn't using the 1/2 stitches the pattern called for, but more like 1/18ths; and all the text in the original pattern?---I ignored the pattern completely, and free-embroidered to match the titles on the original painting as much as possible.
It was the text that got me. Such a challenge to hand-write in embroidery thread that it took me *forever* to finish the book titles---I'd do a title or two then put it down until I had the patience to do the next.
So, there you have it. All done!
Oh, and silly me, I realized in making this post that I'm NOT DONE YET! I missed THE WHISKERS! Ha ha! What a dork! So, still a little more to go--- But you get the idea! lol
I claim oath_keeper for Portraits of my Pets! (Woo-hoo! I had a card made for her already and was waiting to claim! *hee hee*)

I received my final two "Countdown to Thanksgiving" cards! I've been working on this theme since my first craftster atc swap---in 2010---and thanks to RockingBearRanch and My_RubySlippers my set is at last complete! !
First, a beautiful painting, by My_RubySlippers, done on a canvas, of all things (what professional fun!). The lovely Countdown number 25!: (A cornucopia of plenty!) (Is this acrylic, Ruby?)
And finally, from RockingBearRanch, a snarky-looking pilgrim singing a little ditty about the upcoming turkey day! (Ha hah, better watch out, turkey-lurky! Ahm gonna get me sum turkey come Thanksgiving, too!):
What fun creativity, ladies! Thanks SO much for completing my set!
(Now to figure out the perfect project for thirty fall/Thanksgiving themed cards!)
