2  Black Raspberry Jam in Recipes and Cooking Tips by kaz814 on: July 07, 2014 10:42:17 AM

So yesterday I began my Adventures In Canning (tm).  On Saturday, I went and picked 3 pounds of blueberries and a bunch of black raspberries and the raspberries were my first victims in my adventures.

I used a combination of various recipes I found online, but basically:

4 c smushed black raspberries
2 c sugar
2 T pectin
1 lemon (juice and zest)

Various steps (excuse the fact that they're out of order):  From L-R, putting on lids, testing to see if its set, bottom: all of the ingredients beginning to cook.

When we were done, we had 11 little jam jars full of black raspberry jam.  I loved hearing the little pings as they vacuum sealed themselves!

And of course, the best part of canning is eating it!

It was so yummy and I'm totally hooked on canning!

I haven't decided what I'm going to make with the blueberries yet, but mmmm, are they good.

5  Featured Member - Diver in PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS by kaz814 on: June 03, 2014 04:05:50 PM
We have a new featured member: the fabulous Diver!  Heer are some of the fabulous projects Diver's posted on the PBW board:

When and why did you begin making purses, bags, and wallets?

I started making purses about 10 years ago, my first project was a patchwork corduroy bag without a pattern. I didn't even make a lining. I constructed most of my bags without patterns for a long time. Once I found craftster, I followed a few tutorials (The Jordy Bag square bottom purse) and applied my newfound skills to my pattern free purse making.

How long have you been sewing?

My mother taught me how to hand sew when I was younger, but I didn't start using a machine until about 12 years ago

What type of sewing machine do you have?

I have a Bernina Artista and I love it!

Do you have any tips for anyone looking to make their first bag?

Find a tutorial on craftster and keep trying

What other sewing projects have you tackled?

I've made 2 crib quilts, a variety of nursery items for my son. Infant and children's clothing, adult's clothing, kitchen accessories, curtains.

What other crafts do you enjoy?

Tie dye, hair accessories, bead and wire jewelry.

What's your favorite aspect of Craftster?
The tutorials of course!

What's your favorite PBW project on Craftster that you've posted?

My best Plaid Spring Purse

What's your favorite project on another board that you've posted?

Electric Guitar turned coat rack. It was heavy and required a little handywork from the hubs, but it worked.

What's your favorite PBW project on Craftster that someone else has posted?

Definitely the Jordy bag.

7  Environmentally-Friendly and HypoAllergenic Nutlace in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by kaz814 on: April 01, 2014 05:05:08 AM
So with all the cold, snowy weather we've been having lately, I had the urge to make something pretty and spring-like.

After checking the coming trends, I settled on one focus: nuts.  Unfortunately, I'm a teacher and with all the peanut allergies, I couldn't wear a nut to school.  However, I found a solution: a packing peanut.

Using 3 strands of turquoise embroidery floss and some beads and stones I had squirreled away, I centered the peanut in the place of honor.  I think it turned out great, and will definitely be something that will get noticed!

What do you think?

9  Re: 2013 Christmas Tree Along! in Winter Holidays by kaz814 on: December 01, 2013 03:37:17 PM
I used to have an artificial tree, but my rabbit decided the wire made a good teeth tester and ... yeah.  So a new tree for this year.  I decided on a real tree and looked all over for a small one (since my house is teensy and I wanted it out of range of rabbit teeth).  After searching and not finding what I wanted, I bought a regular sized tree, had them cut it in half, got the boughs for decoration and a small tree.  Cheesy  I was just lucky that the trees were oddly affordable!

I've decorated it in Craftster chic.  75% are ornaments I've received in swaps, either hand made or purchased for me, with the last quarter being sentimental favorites I just can't not put up!  You can also see the stocking I received last year in the Stocking swap and the garland I got the year before in the Stocking swap. Cheesy

And nighttime:

10  Re: Holiday Ornament ATC Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by kaz814 on: November 23, 2013 01:30:49 PM
I received from vincentvanbuck and stellou!

vincentvanbuck needlefelted a nativity scene for me - I simply adore it!  The colors are vibrant (and perfect with the blue and yellow) and the scene is awesome.  I cannot believe this was his first venture into needlefelting.

and stellou used my Christmas tree theme and my doors theme to make two gorgeous ATCs.

The background of the tree is burlap with the tree embroidered on, and the door has real hardware!  And a wee little key!

Thank you both SO much!
