1  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / Finishing and plying? on: February 14, 2014 09:08:38 AM
So - I finally got back into my spinning (I will be able to do this!)  and I'm wondering if I should set the twist in my yarn before I ply it.

Right now I think I'm just experimenting so if something good comes out of this, great, if not, steep learning curve here.  Wink
2  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / First sweater! And its black! ACK! on: January 02, 2014 06:12:11 AM
So, about 3, maybe 4 years ago, I saw this book and it had a sweater pattern in it that Z liked.

So - being the good fianc I said "I can make that!"  So he picked out yarn and buttons and I set to work.  I picked it up, put it down, got angry, ripped it out, ignored it some more, went to one of my LYSs for help, worked some more, went to another LYS.  Finally got someone to show me how to seam it together and....  TA DA!

There are still some issues with it (in my opinion).  I don't like the button plaquets because they flop.  They're not sturdy enough to hold up unless they're buttoned.  Z says its perfect.  Cheesy

Laying flat.

Up close and personal with the collar.

The really wonderful woman who helped me seam it together told me that he better love me for making him a black sweater because its soooo stinking hard to see.  I really didn't have a problem with it.  Overall, I'm happy with how this turned out.  And even though Z is already bugging me about making him another sweater (the joke is that it'll take a good 10 years), I think the next sweater will be for me!  Cheesy

Thanks for looking!
3  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Doodle Stitched Christmas Ornaments on: December 25, 2013 06:14:54 AM
I had a brainstorm over Thanksgiving and found myself on the hunt for 3" hoops!  Cheesy  I already had the off white sparkly fabric from another project so I started out using that.  I found  THIS on Pinterest and took my inspiration from it.  I really hope she doesn't mind.   Roll Eyes

Everyone I've given them to absolutely loves their ornament!  Here's hoping that my future in-laws feel the same.  I had Christmas with Z yesterday so I don't get to see the future in-laws reaction.

Here are 9 of the hoops I made.

Questions and comments are welcome!  Thanks for taking a look!

7  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Yoga Socks! on: July 03, 2013 08:43:48 AM
Making these was an experience!  I started with one pattern and they were HUGE so I had to hunt down another pattern.  Overall, I'm pretty pleased with myself.  I usually can't knit anything better than a scarf!

10  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Patchwork Boho Sling Bag on: July 03, 2013 08:37:44 AM
I made this for smileyyogini for the Namaste/Positive Living Swap.

Here's the pattern I used.  After a bit of angst and two blood offerings (rotary cutter and a pin) I got it done as was very pleased with the outcome!

I used two layers of felt in the base instead of batting.  Still seemed to work and give the bag a stronger base.

C&C welcome!
