1  Snarky free motion pillow in Machine Embroidery: Completed Projects by thisbirdsabsurd on: September 14, 2014 10:49:18 AM
Pottermouth was my fabulous partner in the Snarky Housewives swap.  I really had a hard time coming up with something that made me happy but FINALLY had a bright idea.  The witticism was one that she had pinned, the design is my own.  Smiley. It's free motion machine embroidery which I've been experimenting with for the past year or so.  It's becoming one of my favorite things to do.  Smiley

Okay, fingers crossed.....
I received a multi faceted snarky package from the lovely pottermouth!  Snarky AND fun?  What more could a girl ask for?  Check it out.

Ah-ha!  Did ya catch that?  The snarkisms change according to my mood!  There are several of them to choose from!  And check out these way too cute bits and pieces that adorn the table! . AND, the back is a little piece of art in and of itself!  Also you can get a better look at the wheel that turns to change the sayings.

Thanks for being such a fun partner pottermouth and thanks to Racky and cackle for coming up with another great swap idea!

3  Re: ART DOLLS 3 - GALLERY in The Swap Gallery by thisbirdsabsurd on: April 17, 2014 02:42:27 PM
Okay - brace yourself for awesomeness! Cmarion sent me the most fantastic Crow Goddess, guardian of baby birds, bunnies and small beings. She also protects seedlings so they can grow.  (Boy am I ever going to need her with the late spring we're having here!)
She came with a removable cloak (she only needs it for ceremonies) and a basket of seeds, a tiny skull and a scroll that tells all about her.  And look at the amazing staff.  Everything about her is so wonderful!  Thank you so much cmarion!!

That last one is a picture of my cat who was so enthralled with the Crow Goddess that I had a hard time taking pictures!!! Wink

4  Re: Art Dolls 3 - Send out Monday April 21, 2014 in ACTIVE SWAPS WHERE SIGN-UP PERIOD HAS CLOSED by thisbirdsabsurd on: April 14, 2014 06:20:48 AM
Whew, I finished today. We had our photo shoot out in the garden next to some lovely crocus and she posed like a pro. I will be sending Tuesday, as work has me running all over the state tomorrow. This has been an incredibly challenging swap. Of course, I made it challenging. Pushing myself to new heights.

Teaser photo:

I also finished a private swap I am behind on, and two of three quilt squares that are due soon. Now on to the next thing. Can't stop crafting!

Ohboyohboyohboy! !

5  Little Red and BBW in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by thisbirdsabsurd on: April 01, 2014 12:15:49 PM
So I made these for the Art Doll Swap.  Cmarion was my partner and since she said she likes dark/non Disney fairy tales I thought I'd go with the one that scared the crap out of me as a kid.  Smiley
I sketched them out on canvas and then "drew" them with free motion embroidery on the machine.  I added a little of the necessary RED with colored pencil.  I failed at making them stand on their own, but they can lean on each other quite well.  Smiley

6  My Big Bear in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by thisbirdsabsurd on: January 30, 2014 11:47:02 AM
So I bought a new house - out in the woods, which is heaven to me.  I'm moving in two weeks so of course I was inspired to take on a new project.  I had seen a bear print on wood that I liked a lot but they were sold out so...why not make my own?   I connected three boards - about 10" x 48" then painted and sanded to make sure the grain and knots showed through.  My present to me for my new woodsy house.  Smiley

7  Old Chair, New Life in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by thisbirdsabsurd on: January 25, 2014 08:54:45 PM
This old rocker has been around since before I was born (a long, looooong time ago.)  I always remember my grandmother sitting in it, rocking away.  Well I've hung on to it and it was in pretty rough shape but I couldn't bear to do away with it so...of course a new project.
I got this idea from sugarbeth - who may or may not still be on Craftster but she did some really lovely pieces. I used a Dremel to draw out my pictures then painted the entire chair black.  When I painted all the birds, etc I left the black outlines.  On the actual rockers at the bottom I wrote a couple of the nonsense rhymes/sayings that my grandma used to tell me she learned as a girl - in memoriam.
Ive worked on it off and on for several months but I'm getting ready to move across the country so that was my motivation to finish this bad boy up.  Smiley

8  Crazy Christmas Angel in Winter Holidays by thisbirdsabsurd on: December 01, 2013 01:10:22 PM
I made my own Christmas angel years ago. I made my own pattern and used fabric stiffener for her dress.  She's pretty giant and a little over the top but she makes me happy every year when I unpack her from her box.  I decided to make a few this year for friends and for my shop - this one's about 20 inches long ( a bit longer with the berries) and fits over the top of the tree with a wire coil.  (This one doesn't have a coil, she's going to be hung on the wall I think.)

9  Fish Wind Chimes in Completed Projects by thisbirdsabsurd on: September 14, 2013 12:45:12 PM
First of all, this isn't an original idea - I saw something similar on Etsy and I instantly wanted to try and make some!!
I bought some old silver plated spoons months ago, then kind of lost my nerve.  I don't have any real experience with cutting metal and I had visions of shrapnel wounds, but I finally bit the bullet and gave it a try.  In the end, the hardest part was stringing them up so that they were visually pleasing and actually chimed.  I've already sent them off to my sister - she asked me months ago if I could make her a wind chime.  Smiley  I bet she'll like 'em!
Hard to get a good pic - but you get the idea...

10  Spooky Owl Spoon in Completed Projects by thisbirdsabsurd on: August 19, 2013 07:01:54 PM
Can't stop burnin' them spoons!  Smiley  This one came about as I tried to think of something that would go well in this odd "corner spoon" shape!

I found a salad fork and spoon - my next victims... Smiley
