1  Belly dance costume from curtains and table cloths oh my in Costumes: Completed Projects by indigoracer on: November 02, 2012 10:18:44 AM
This costume was made from curtains and a black circular table cloth.  I did buy beads for the dangly jingles so I would jingle when I moved as well as sequin fabric for the top.  I am in the running for the Holloween Craft challenge so please go and vote for me.

I crocheted the decorative trim that the beads are attached to on the over skirt.  I cut the straps off of a bra and covered the back portions from the cup to the hooks leaving access to the loop and hook closure.  The sequins came on a stretchy fabric at walmart which I sewed onto the bra. All of the dangly's were hand beaded and then attached to the crocheted trim.  The pants are drawstring.

This is my first time sewing pants as well as crocheting.  I also taught myself to knit although I did not find anyway to incorporate that into the costume.  The disc in the middle of the bra is also crocheted.

For good measure I included my helpers Charlie and Sparr

C&C welcome

Hanging Lighted bed canopy
found branches outside (finding branches w/leaves was tricky)
used hemp string to tie together in a tear drop shape w/ support beams in middle so fishing line could be attached to hang it from the ceiling
strung white led lights up in branches
added patches of fabrick covered in rhinestones
covered w/ tule
used screw in hooks to attach to ceiling (via the fish line)
used white extension cord to blend in to wall and ta da pretty canopy
some of the lights flicker which reminds me of fire fly's and the boyfriend calls it "the cloud"
hope you all like it

6  I wanted a warm hat that was also cute sooooooooo.... in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by indigoracer on: February 21, 2011 05:42:22 PM
This hat is made from a purple velvet pillow sham and a green cotton sheet.
if you want one cut two circles at least 1 1/2 foot diameter and cut part of the elastic off the sheet you are using long enough to comfortable go around your head sew the two ends together to make a headband sorta
place the fabric on your head and put the headband you made around it then adjust until it looks the way you want
optional add a flower made from the same fabric

8  Old dress to new dress with TUt in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by indigoracer on: February 21, 2011 02:36:39 PM
I had an old dress that I never wear because the off the shoulder flap would not stay folded and it looked awful.

So if you have this kind of dress or just a long tight fitted jersy knit top follow allong.

1)cut off top fold of fabric
2) cut off sleeves
3)rutch/gather between breasts
4)add lace (mine is thrifted curtains) and arrange to taste
If you want the sorta scalloped affect I have leave enough up top to pin it so that it folds over and then comes back up as long as you want it to

5)add black ribbon (I recomend sewing it to the front half but not the back so there is enough stretch left to get into the dress)

as you can tell I am not sure if I want lace on the bottom or not. Suggestions please!! Once I know if I want lace on the bottom I will take an action pic and post it.

10  Sweater from an airline blanket in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by indigoracer on: December 13, 2009 12:50:18 PM
So I got a blanket on one of my flights and it was actually a decent size and the material is warm.  So I made it into a sweater (forgive the stitching I had to do it by hand).

So this is the blanket before destruction

And this is after

Please forgive the legs I don't have leggings at the moment.
