1  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Laura's Celebration quilt on: January 27, 2015 05:57:17 PM
My friend Laura celebrated her 20 year recovery (whoohoo)
anniversary last fall. She hosted a party at a park near her home... six hours and a different country from where I am.
I had started a new job and didn't figure in asking for a weekend off so I sent my best wishes and told her hubs and I wouldn't be there. Fast forward. Work scheduled released and I had not only the Friday but right thru til the Tuesday off. So! ROAD TRIP!

I.didnt tell her we were coming or that I had spent a day making signature blocks for her. After getting  lost in upstate new york and adding two hours to our trip we finally made it. she was taking off for a hike when she saw us... it took a minute to recognise. And there were some happy tears.

Then some more after our trek up the mountain and back to the gazebo... here I had set up a markers and block station. all in all I managed to get blocks sent to her friends all over the us and Canada to include in this. She hasn't seen the finished product but it is in the mail. Hopefully to arrive for her birthday.

3  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / for those about to poop! a rock star baby quilt on: January 20, 2015 02:59:30 PM
So one of my imaginary friends (people I only know online) asked me a while ago to make a "metal" baby quilt. Something with 80's metal themes or skulls or flames... this is what my graph paper and I came up with.

It turns out. It is for another imaginary friend who is expecting her first  Smiley

, I discuss a price...if I don't want to do it, the price is higher! Grin

Cheesy i do that too. I felt sort Of bad charging someone more to shorten her curtains that she actually paid for them, but i HATE curtains.

Sometimes if i get a 'vibe' off a commision during intial consult i jack the price up... Sometimes they go away, sometimes they stay, but at least then i've got some extra $$ for pints to soothe the pain of dealing with difficulties.   That said.

I'd better get back to it. I've been putting off a six quilt commision since november.

I have a bunch of destash pics to take. Last week was productive that way.

January
White. Polka dot. For me.
This came from a sewing room cleaning frenzy' I cleaned my sewing
room Dec 30/31 so I could start the new year tidy. I found in my progress that I had a WHOLE bunch of white material.
And I also found my dye kit. My previously unused dye kit cause I was afraid of chemicals and possibly having to explain to hubby why his lovely counter tops seems streaked green. Smiley

So I bit the bullet. I mixed up some chemicals. I tied and teased and twisted fabric. I soaked and sprayed and played. 24 hours later I had these.

My attempt at 'polka dots' I didn't say it was 100%sucessful. Cheesy

Yellow 'shibori' style folds. Notice the green... yeah 0-2 that was accidental transfer from a puddle of blue.

Blue and grey 'shibori' style this one mostly came out as I wanted.Smiley

Two smooshed patterns. I love these two.

This was an experimental wrap and tie. I kind like how it came out.

Accordion style pleat fold with loose tie segments.

And lastly. Some mystery fabric. It's got some sort on in it. But something else. The colours are much less bright and... crisp? it's a faded washed look. Unintentional but cool nonetheless.

So all in all I destashed about 2m of white...I learned not to be afraid of dye. and I got myself a bunch of new fat quarters for quilting! Smiley
6  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Craftalongs / Re: Craft Your Daily Reflections--Continuing the saga in 2014! on: January 05, 2015 08:12:23 AM
The top for 2014 is done. I just have to find the right backing. Smiley

2015s plan is slightly more complicated. But hubby got to write code and design a wee computers program and hook up Web cams and laptops to assist in daily observations.
It's going to be sunsets. In a rail fence pattern... except so far, all my sunsets have been overcast.  Undecided

I think I'll jump in. I love the idea of destashing on a theme. And already have project one picked out. Wink

I cleaned my sewing room on the 30/31 of december so I'm already prepped. Smiley it was so vile and cluttered and messy it was unusable, now it's glorious and gorgeous. Cheesy

9  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Re: 14 Quilt Projects in 2014 Quilt Along! on: December 31, 2014 08:37:04 PM
the three large bins of scrap that are just visible in the bottom are on the to do list for the new year.

Also not shown. The full shelf of meters and solids and backing fabric. Or the shelf of flannel...
10  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Re: 14 Quilt Projects in 2014 Quilt Along! on: December 31, 2014 05:43:40 PM
I don't have a problem with finishes. I just now have 11 baby quilts and six fill lap quilts with no homes.

I did start my 2015 list. Smiley

And here they are.

Before.

After

And because I know you guys will appreciate this like not many in my 3D world do. My half meter and fat quarters.
