1  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / crazy quilt of orphan blocks on: March 27, 2015 10:50:28 AM
Most quilters end up with spare blocks. Either the wrong size. Or colour. Or an experiment gone wrong. Or a complete math fail with angles.

This is what happens when you pick them all up off the floor, rummage them out of bags and put em all together.

The back and binding were also pieced and scrap. From other projects.
It's big and bold and the entire time I've been working on it. It's been telling where it wants to go live. Hopefully I can drop it off tonight.
2  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Re: 15 Quilt Projects in 2015 on: March 27, 2015 08:38:47 AM

My other finish so far this month.Smiley

And another I finished today.

3  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / what comes from "beneath" quilt (super long post with tons of process pics) on: March 27, 2015 08:35:14 AM
For the Be Awesome Redux swap I was paired with the incomparable sheepBlue. So I knew I had to bring my A game. Smiley
Finished project.

while chatting and pinteresting I settled on a piece of art she had pinned. So I wrote to the artist asking permission to make a quilt based on her art. (whiteoctopus on etsy... the piece is called "beneath"). Once that was granted. I broke out the graph paper.
I pulled out all my whites and blues and printed off a bunch of paper piecing patterns. it was the easiest way to get the crazy quilted fractured icy look I was going for.

Then. There was a pause. I didn't have a "sea" fabric in my stash. And it took me three days and four fabric shops and hubby pushing me to "forget about the price/meter, do what the quilt needs" (see why I married him! Smiley) to get the perfect fabric.

The tentacles, before I even started i knew I would be using a horded metallic dot fabric... Perfect for the impression of suckers.
We live in a house of cats. And they "helped" with basting.
And quilting
And squaring

I am so pleased with how this turned out. It was built to fit the top of a queen sized bed. But drape the length.

The original inspiration.

And this is what my notebook looks like at the end of a project Smiley

You are welcome sheepBlue.   It was a fun challenge.

But sleep with it! Snuggle on the couch with it! Drag it outside and watch shooting stars on it!

So sheepBlue has so many skillz I wo dared the whole swap what she was going to put together. Was it going to be a teeny tiny stump work twinchie? Some awesome screen printed fabric? A teesha bag?

None of the above! It's better. I can hear you now. Ooh pretty but what is it? Is it a cowl? Is it a wrap?

. (modelled by my most handsome bot on his birthday cause I just do not photograph well, and he is tolerant Smiley)

I have been wearing it all weekend! Thank you sheepBlue this was a great swap.
