1  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Self Portrait as a Military Spouse on: July 08, 2010 12:11:42 PM

Hand embroidery.
Some yarns are handspun, others are commercial.
I repurposed some ABU fabric to embellish.
2  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Embroidered Portrait, Mikhail Kalashnikov on: May 04, 2010 02:29:33 PM

Portrait embroidered with cotton, silk, and linen floss on a repurposed USAF dress blues shirt. Measures 11" by 14".

Mikhail Kalashnikov invented the AK47.  As a military wife in the middle of an agonizingly long war, I have worked on military themed art for the last few years.  I know I should put this is Needlework, but I have worked for years to transcend craft and create fine art with the medium.  I hope you'll let me stay.
3  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Free motion quilted M4 Rifle with Trapunto accents on: April 09, 2010 11:26:19 AM
Just a little art quilt I made.  It's all stitched by machine.

4  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Odes to Common Things on: April 08, 2010 08:21:38 PM
I'm starting a new series inspired by Pablo Neruda's poems.  I'm trying to exhault the ordinary objects that are so much a part of my daily life.

I hope you enjoy it!
5  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / May Cause Drowsiness on: May 10, 2009 04:04:18 PM
My latest in The Promise of Pills series.  I used cotton and rayon floss on a traditional linen tea towel.  The image is approx 10" by 4".  I have always loved the sleepy eye on Rx bottle stickers.  I blogged about it if you're interested in the idea behind it.  30 or more shades of floss.

6  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Effexor on: April 25, 2009 03:26:36 PM

16" by 9"  Cotton and rayon on a printed cotton background.

7  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / New Series: The Promise of Pills on: April 21, 2009 05:00:00 PM
I'm exploring my 23 year love affair with meds.  Join me, won't you?

My biggest concern was trying to get stitching to look like painting--gestural and complex.  I am crazy excited about this project.

8  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Channeling my inner 8 year old on: April 18, 2009 06:16:25 PM
I can't resist this face.

9  FIBER ARTS / Weaving: Completed Projects / I am a board hog...finished weaving on: February 21, 2009 05:16:12 PM
I've never posted to the weaving board before, so I thought I'd just put everything in one post.

The purple and white blanket is handspun.

The red and brown blanket is 4ft by 8 ft.

The hot pink thing is a scarf for my stepdaughter.

The pillow was a gift to my husband for our cottton anniversary.

Thanks for looking!

10  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / This is my gun... on: October 27, 2008 04:10:14 PM
Here is the second gun in my series.  It's an M9 pistol.  My husband is an MP and often carries this gun at work.    It's blackwork done with red thread.  I don't know if that makes it blackwork or redwork.
