1  Self Portrait as a Military Spouse in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by kniterdone on: July 08, 2010 12:11:42 PM

Hand embroidery.
Some yarns are handspun, others are commercial.
I repurposed some ABU fabric to embellish.

2  Re: Embroidered Portrait, Mikhail Kalashnikov in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by kniterdone on: May 04, 2010 03:45:14 PM

Thanks.  I don't know sometimes if I fit into Art or Craft, but I want to be considered Art at this point in my life.   Wink

3  Embroidered Portrait, Mikhail Kalashnikov in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by kniterdone on: May 04, 2010 02:29:33 PM

Portrait embroidered with cotton, silk, and linen floss on a repurposed USAF dress blues shirt. Measures 11" by 14".

Mikhail Kalashnikov invented the AK47.  As a military wife in the middle of an agonizingly long war, I have worked on military themed art for the last few years.  I know I should put this is Needlework, but I have worked for years to transcend craft and create fine art with the medium.  I hope you'll let me stay.

5  Odes to Common Things in Needlework: Completed Projects by kniterdone on: April 08, 2010 08:21:38 PM
I'm starting a new series inspired by Pablo Neruda's poems.  I'm trying to exhault the ordinary objects that are so much a part of my daily life.

I hope you enjoy it!

6  May Cause Drowsiness in Needlework: Completed Projects by kniterdone on: May 10, 2009 04:04:18 PM
My latest in The Promise of Pills series.  I used cotton and rayon floss on a traditional linen tea towel.  The image is approx 10" by 4".  I have always loved the sleepy eye on Rx bottle stickers.  I blogged about it if you're interested in the idea behind it.  30 or more shades of floss.

I'm exploring my 23 year love affair with meds.  Join me, won't you?

My biggest concern was trying to get stitching to look like painting--gestural and complex.  I am crazy excited about this project.

10  I am a board hog...finished weaving in Weaving: Completed Projects by kniterdone on: February 21, 2009 05:16:12 PM
I've never posted to the weaving board before, so I thought I'd just put everything in one post.

The purple and white blanket is handspun.

The red and brown blanket is 4ft by 8 ft.

The hot pink thing is a scarf for my stepdaughter.

The pillow was a gift to my husband for our cottton anniversary.

Thanks for looking!
