1  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / How to twist on: October 15, 2014 04:07:19 AM
Hiya, I bought a kit to make this necklace. It is macram string with 6 strings of beads twisted together. The pattern does not tell me how to do the twist though and whatever I do keeps coming untwisted. Anybody know how I can make it stay twisted? I am happy to undo if needs be.
This is how it should look (though it should be tighter)

This is how it does look.

2  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Completed Projects / Lacey bracelet! on: September 27, 2014 01:05:15 PM
I REALLY need to practise my product photography so apologies for fairly crap photos - but I made this bracelet for myself recently - I never make anything for myself - so therefore I figured I should share this momentous occasion! If anybody knows any good resources re: product photography - please let me know!

It does not look so wonky while being worn!

And here is a  close up to show the detail -it is emerald green with purple joining beads.

constructive criticism welcomed Smiley
3  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Mr and Mrs Ted on: September 27, 2014 12:37:55 PM
I made these Bride and Groom teddies for my stepsister as a wedding present, due to ill health we didnt end up going to the wedding - so I need to get them in the post! They were made following a pattern in "20 to make knitted bears by Val Pierce. They are about 8" high. The bride has a necklace made of tiny pearl beads, and a bouquet as well as her dress / veil. The groom is wearing a suit with tiny pearl beads as buttons and a pearl on his cravat as a tie pin. I hope you like them.

So last weekend my Grandma had a stroke =( luckily she is beginning to improve but it was a nightmare week last week. As she is quite a while from us and we had my in-laws coming over the weekend we have just had we are unable to get to see her until next weekend. Because I could not be there in person I decided to send her a letter and a present. I had recently bought a book with 20 different teddy bears to knit. I had bought it to make a bride and  a groom bear for someone I know who is getting married and had seen this pattern for a bear dressed as a bee. At the time I thought that is perfect for Grandma, she used to keep bees and still loves them. I thought I would buy some wool and make it for a Christmas present,  but then decided to make it to keep her company while she is in hospital. As last week was the end of the month I was very low on funds, so rooted through my stash. I managed to find the right coloured wools, although they were all different makes and the black was cheap and kept coming unspun! Anyhow....Sorry for the essay, here is Buzzbee (in the book it is a she and she is called sweet honey bee but I thought it looked more masculine, even though there are few male honey bees, and Buzzbee sounded so much better for a name!)
5  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Completed Projects / Peyote diamond bracelet on: June 27, 2014 01:40:33 PM
I never spend much time making anything for myself - most things I make are for swaps or presents for people - so it has been fun spending some time lately making things for myself. I made the two starry bracelets (although I have now dismantled the first one and reused it's beads!) and then I spent a few days making this diamond peyote bracelet - which I love! It looks a bit wonky in the photo - but it is straight and flat really!

the colours are silver, purple and a bright green - didn't come out too well in the photos even after editing!

6  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Completed Projects / Starry bracelet take 2 on: June 20, 2014 02:50:30 PM
so - at the beginning of the week I created this bracelet:

I was not happy with it - so decided to play a bit more (and help improve my peyote skills) and this evening have completed this one - which I am so pleased with!

7  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Handbag for my mum on: June 17, 2014 12:17:43 PM
I am still very much a learner sewer -but my mum kind of requested a handmade handbag for her birthday - so I came up with this! There are a few mistakes - but it was the most complicated bag I have tried yet - and overall I am pleased with it.

MY mum took the photos, in reality the handle completes a circle with the bag body - but it looks floppy in the pictures - blame the photographer Wink

the main bit I am unhappy with is the interfacing showing on the lining/handle (the big white bit!) I really struggled with the lining/handle!

8  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Completed Projects / Flowery/starry bracelet and earrings on: June 17, 2014 11:49:33 AM
I made this bracelet over the last few nights using peyote in the round - it is the first time I have made anything from peyote that isn't just the straight lined bracelets you can make - I am fairly pleased with it - although lots of improvements can be made!

I also made these earrings to be worn with it. I have just noticed that the spring has fallen off one of the hooks - so will replace that before I wear them!

(also just noticed one of the earrings is crunched up abit - they are both the same, honest guv!)

9  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Completed Projects / beaded dragonfly. on: May 02, 2014 05:26:00 PM
I found this pin on a recent swap partners pinterest and fell in love! I tried to create one for my partner and after many hours and 10 times of starting again had something I was fairly happy to send. Dragonflies remind me of my grandma and as it is her birthday on Monday I decided I should make one for her. It still took several attempts to get something I was pleased with, but I think  she will like this:

10  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / One pattern two bags on: April 27, 2014 06:11:02 AM
I made this bag for my partner in the box of colour swap. I used a pattern and followed instructions very closely (although I still ended up ripping most of it out and starting again as I attached the lining to the outer instead of doing the lining and the outer and then stitching them together. I am still very much a learner and every mistake helps me learn (or so I console myself when things go wrong!)

Then, in the Craft the Rainbow swap I used the pattern piece of the same bag for the outer and the lining, created my own handles and Velcro tab closure and put the whole thing together with no instructions! I am really pleased and proud of it and personally prefer it to the original
