Project Name:Quotes composition notebook

Brief Description: Another composition book makeover, This one to organize the quotes I scribble
down on random bits of paper and then promptly misplace- I chose a water and reed design with a
dragonfly hovering above

Project Name:Starfish drawing

Brief Description:

I live two blocks away
from the Gulf of Mexico, home to the most beautiful sugar white sand beaches in
the world-

We are fortunate to have, just a couple of miles away, The Mote Marine Labratory
a facilitity commited to the preservation and protection of marine life-
it is a small labratory and aquarium that rehabs injured marine life with the intent of
releasing these creatures back into the Gulf of Mexico. It is open to the public with the goal
of educating the community about the wonderful marine life all around us.

Lately the local news stations has been running stories about deformed and dead Starfish
that keep washing up on shore by the hundreds- Scientist at the Mote Marine labratory has discovered the source of these
deformaties and deaths are due to a parasite but they have yet to discover a solution to stop these
parasites from infecting the starfish population- They fear if a solution isn't discovered soon starfish may  become extinct, and this situation is not unique to this area. Starfish all over the globe are being affected.  In 2010/2011 deformed and dead starfish were discovered in Britain and California. it appears to be a world wide epidemic.

I have decided to bring awareness to this situation by creating a drawing of some these unique and wonderful sea creatures

OWL Subject & Option(if available): Potions option 1
Project Name: Diagon Alley Advertising posters

Brief Description:
Now, as most of you know during the last wizard war Diagon Alley was practically obliterated by Death eaters in search of support for Voldemort, in the process, many shops were destroyed and quite a few shop owners fled. After Voldemot's defeat, the wizarding community was anxious to get Diagon Alley back on its feet. You see for many wizards Diagon Alley  is much more than a shopping district it's a community,  a place to gather meet up with old friends catch up on the latest and the greatest happenings in the wizarding world.

After holding several meetings at the leaky cauldron, the shop owners of Diagon Alley decided to hire a design firm to create adverts and posters encouraging the wizarding community to return to Diagon Alley. After submitting several design and a grueling interview, I was offered the job!

It is with great pride and enthusiasm that I present to you the finished advertis and posters.

9  Art tool organizer in Completed Projects by teag on: May 18, 2014 09:56:46 AM
Like many crafters my tools and art supplies sometimes get unruly and try to take over my work areas. I needed to come up with a workable solution and came up with this

It started out as this.

I purchased this exact one thinking it would help me organize my bills better, but it never quite worked out and then paperless bills came and it became an unruly collector of anything paper. I had contemplated tossing it out but I still love they way it looked, just not they way it worked- so I removed the dividers, which require me to remove some of the molding, I left  a few of the dividers  and then sanded the entire thing and gave it a couple coats of paint

It still wasn't as functional as I wanted it so I made removable inserts to help out using, what else, cardboard from food boxes

I finished the inserts they same way as I finished the art pen case
masking tape and all

10  art pen case tutorial in Completed Projects by teag on: May 18, 2014 09:37:38 AM
it has been quite a while since I have posted even though I have been crafting all along - At the beginning of the year I joined the Documented life project- a combination planner journal and art journal with weekly prompts-

one of the ongoing discussions has been about the proper storage of art pens (micron ink pens, prismacolor ink pens, etc.) for longer life-this has been of great interest to me, I Live in Florida and I find pens, in particular, seem to dry out quickly.
The Manufacturers recommend these pens be stored horizontally, Like most people I had been storing my ink pens in a cup or pencil holder. After reading this info I started brainstorming for alternative storage solution- while breaking down cardboard food boxes this solution came to me:

Using the bottom part of the box as is I measured my desired height- the second measurement is the width of the box and the third is the desired lip of the cover

I then cut out my pen case

I forgot to measure the flap bits but included them as I cut it out, you can omit them if you desire but I find they strengthen the box

here you can see the flap bits folded in- in addition to strengthening the box they provide a nice finished edge

I then cover the entire box with masking tape. Why? I found, quite accidentally, that masking tape makes an excellent primer for printed cardboard- it took one coat of paint to completely cover the above pen box (lighter colors may require more than one coat)  if you have ever tried to paint over printed cardboard you know how frustrating it can be - Masking tape is quick, no drying time and provides extra stability.

I finished the box by free handing the flowers with a white gel pen, did dots with a dotting tool and acrylic paint, then painted the inside the same color as the dots- finally I used velcro dots on the inside of the flap and front of box for closures
