I've posted this in the Misc. Challenge but I wanted to share it here too.

Here's the story...

BEFORE

A few years ago I bought this hunk of plastic at a thrift shop, I just knew it would make the perfect shrine. I cleaned it up, took the pink stickers off and then let it sit for 2 years.

This year one of my goals is to finish up all those pesky projects that have been sitting unfinished and bust my growing stash. So needless to say the Misc. Challenge was the perfect way to force me to get my act together.

When my husband's grandmother (a lovely beautiful elegant lady) passed away we bought her house. There were a lot of things left behind when we moved in. A lot of what was left behind was religious stuff like a velvet Jesus painting, rosaries and little funeral/death cards of my husbands family from ages ago.

Some of the items I've used are new (the candy skulls which were a giveaway from my work) and some are those small things left behind, like the little Madonna.

That beautiful girl at the top is my granny-in-law.

The handsome guy at the top is my hubbys grandfather

I'm pretty sure that fuzzy stuff is a bit of dried edelweiss we found when we moved in. It's soooo funky looking Smiley

Here it is all closed up.

I loved this project and I'm thrilled that I now have a little spot to honour our family Smiley

Amazing! I would have never guessed it was plastic until I saw the before version.

What did you use to pain the plasic and get it so smooth?

This will be a treasure. Love it!

I cleaned the plastic really well and then just used a super duper spray paint. I did it in very light layers.... lots and lots of layers. It took a couple of days for the spray painting but it turned out well.

It looks amazing. It is hard to believe it started out as that weird plastic thing. What a lovely tribute to a loved one.

Yay for you seeing the awesome potential in that strange bit of plastic from Value Village!
The doors are so beautiful and dramatic, and I LOVE how the "crown" of it turned out.  Candy skullls - NICE!

Ha! Value Village and the Re-Use Centre are my favourite places on earth (beside home of course). Some girls like shoes... I like other peoples garbage Smiley

This is amazing and inspirational.

I love that you turned that girlie plastic thing into a special piece of art. I love the red glitter.

Awesome transformation.  You have quite the vision to see a shrine in an old plastic toy!  I just had to hit "This Rocks."
