Spotlight on: Quilling

During the summer when we travel it is always nice to have crafts we can take with us. Quilling is something that is easy to carry, lightweight and can be done anywhere. In the car, on a plane, on the beach, on a rainy day, etc.
What is quilling you ask? Quilling is simply the coiling and shaping of narrow paper strips to create a design. With a few simple tools you can create unique colorful papercrafts that can be as simple or detailed as your brain allows.
The tutorial also shows you don’t have to do an elaborately quilled picture to try this new to you technique, to get your feet wet.
On the other hand, once you have played with the tutorial and the tools to get familiar, you can get pretty detailed with coils of paper. In this piece littlecircles has truly created a beautiful work of art called, The Room.
Amazing, right? She even captured the shadows and tiny details with the coils. You can also see various shapes the coils take to become the picture; Round, oval, oblong, square, etc.
Love the bright colors and bonus on being able to get impact from a smaller (easily transported) picture.
So pretty and you can choose any colors for the flowers.
This summer when you go on vaction make sure to try some quilling. It will keep your crafty side occupied, and keep the kids from driving you nuts.
