Airplane Yup, it’s time to crack open those dusty old books (or Nook or Kindle files, fine!) and celebrate the long history of aviation. Sure, it’s not as ancient a history as, say, the wheel, but it’s still an important piece of history. Without the airplane, modern travel would be… a lot less modern. Unless we had those steam-powered blimps featured in steampunk worlds… which would be slower, but pretty darn cool. Sure, they wouldn’t hit 2,193.2 mph that the SR-71 Blackbird did, but … I digress. This is a month to celebrate all airplanes, and even though I’m sure this plane by Nymla would never hit Mach 2, but it’s a pretty good nod to the airplane, don’t you think?
Airplane Quilt Fancy jets are all well and good, that they can be gorgeous, but old airplanes just have a really neat look, which was captured perfectly on this quilt by smudgycat – what airplane enthusiast wouldn’t love that in their house?
Wooden biplane And speaking of iconic looks… there’s something special about biplanes, don’t you think? They hold a special place in aviation history, and I’m not just saying that because I know someone who flies a Stearman and I’m angling for a ride or anything… *ahem* Anyway, this little wodden biplace replica by schnerby is just adorable, and captures that essence perfectly.
amigurumi airplane And what project round-up would be complete without some adorable amigurumi? This little plane by melicious is just the cutest little plane, and is a great homage to the airplane.

So… who wants to celebrate Aviation History Month by flying me someplace warmer? Anyone? Anyone? ;)
