Victoria Martini is an embroidery artist from Munich, Germany.

“I love in a way to copy artists that have also copied existing ideas (from other artists pictures or advertisements) and made a complete new picture or interpretation of it. Sometimes they just made little changes and the meaning of the picture is different.

“In the last month I studied Roy Lichtenstein and focused on the following pictures: “Still life with a cash box”, “Still life with a Dossier” and “Still life with a Table Lamp” all made in the year 1976.

“I started a series of four pictures and took the colours blue, black and white from the Roy Lichtenstein pictures and widen the still life theme as I integrated the human body, but you can’t really see them, so the focus is still on things in the pictures.”

I really like Victoria’s work. The illustrative style of the work deliberately references the comic book artists of the past (via Lichtenstein et al.) and there is a classic feel to the pieces, despite their contemporary creation. There’s plenty more work to be seen on Victoria’s website, including mixed media pieces and painting, and it’s great to see how her work has evolved.
