Mr X Stitch presents The Cutting (& Stitching) Edge – July 8th, 2009

Welcome to the Cutting (& Stitching) Edge! I’m Mr X Stitch and I’ll be your guide to the best in contemporary embroidery. Each week I’ll showcase someone who is rocking the world of embroidery and textiles.
This week I’d like to introduce you to Lou Trigg. She is a mixed media artist specialising in free machine embroidery.
Lou has a terrific sense of humour, as evidenced by a lot of her work, but she also explores darker topics. A recurring theme in her work is the (in her words) “internal and external reality of the invisibility of ‘women of a certain age’ ”
Recent series of works have featured tragic women, films that have strong female leads, and an amusing series of pieces entitled “Why Internet Dating Sucks”
Lou is a wonderful artist; her mastery of the sewing machine enables her to deliver pieces of work that charm and delight. And she is also a thoroughly lovely person. You can find out more about her on her website or at her Flickr photostream.
Mr X Stitch is a manbroiderer, cross stitch designer and runs www.mrxstitch.com,
the number one contemporary embroidery and needlecraft blog on the planet.
He can often be found hanging out on the Craftster needlecraft boards or at the Phat Quarter on Flickr.
