Mr X Stitch Presents: The Cutting (& Stitching) Edge – Jazmín Berakha

Welcome to the Cutting (& Stitching) Edge! I’m Mr X Stitch and I’ll be your guide to the best in contemporary embroidery. Each week I’ll showcase someone who is rocking the world of embroidery and textiles.
Jazmín Berakha lives and works in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
“I focus my work in needlepoint as an entry to investigate modern images. My work explores the possibilities of textiles in contemporary art.
“My meditative sewing process embraces aspects of domesticity with a consciousness of place and time. I balance between abstract images of fabric within fabrics, and portraits of women in frozen moments of unexplained contemplation, both coexisting in a multi-patterned world. All the life in these works are either engages by their focus or contained, held in place by the threads themselves.”
Jazmín’s work is charming. The choice of colour and the simple design comes together to create elegant embroideries that can’t help but enchant you. They are reminiscent of the patterns of the 1930s and 40s and I think they’re lovely.
