null Here in the US it’s almost Memorial Day (which coincides with Spring holidays in some other countries as well). For most of the US this means the beginning of Summer. It’s a day of cookouts, picnics, pool openings, school closing, fishing, and the Indy 500 – in other words, enjoying the outdoors and celebrating Spring and the start of summer. Food is a big part of the festivities. Many people grill outside or have picnics. Whether you’re looking for barbeque ideas, vegetarian delicacies, sides, or awesome desserts, Craftster has your recipes!

Picnics and cookouts are a great excuse for other crafts as well. Check out this adorable gingham tote, dog dress, and sweet halter dress made from ties:

In many areas, Memorial Day also marks the opening of local swimming pools and lakes. Why not make yourself a new swim suit to mark the occasion? Here is also an ingenious t-shirt quilt that folds into a backpack for easy carrying to a picnic or the beach. This gorgeous patriotic quilt would be a lovely picnic blanket or summery bedspread.

If you are looking for something different to do, consider letterboxing. You can make you own stamp and also enjoy the great outdoors. I also really love this ingenious idea. One of our members cooked up a surprise “choose your own adventure” date for her boyfriend. This combines creative planning, spontaneity, and the element of surprise. I think it’s brilliant! It would be a great way to surprise a loved one over the long weekend!
