Maker Faire & Bizarre Bazaar 2006 Recap

It’s taken me a week and a half to getting around to posting this! Ack! The Maker Faire was on Sat/Sun April 22/23 in San Mateo. I flew out for it because I was organizing and participating in the Bazaar Bizarre which took place right in the middle of the Maker Faire. Words cannot describe how amazing this event was. It was HUGE and there were so many different things going on. It was sort of part science-fair-for-adults and part celebration of all things DIY including straight up crafts. You can see tons of great photos of the event on Flickr by clicking this tag: makerfaire.
Make Magazine has a special crafts issue coming out in the Fall which is why they wanted to include lots of crafty folks at the Maker Fair.
Here’s some pics of me at and my booth at the Bazaar Bizarre. It was the first craft fair I’ve done where I didn’t sell my own handmade wares. Instead I sold copies of my new book. And I sold out of every single one! Yowza!
My favorite part of the whole weekend was the Kitschy Craft Contest that I held on Sunday. I shipped a bunch of kooky craft supplies like popsicle sticks, pom poms, doll heads, mini chenille chicks, etc. And people had 45 minutes to grab their supplies and make something. The winner got a free copy of my book. It was so much fun.

Some of the tacky supplies participant were forced to work with… muwah ha ha ha…
The craftsters young and old hard at work.
The rigorous judging process. In true Craftster style everyone brought their creation to the front table and got to say a few words about their creation. Dave helped emcee this process.
The winner! Genevieve! Who read about the contest on Craftster and knew the secret rule about being able to bring 3 supplies of your own from home. Great job Genevieve!
A huge thanks to Simone who took all the photos of the craft contest!
