Cross-Stitch and Election Woes

I’m sure there are dozens of cross-stitch software programs out there but I just did a quick search for one that runs on Mac OSX and I found this company called Ursa Software who makes three different programs: X-Stitch Studio, Mac Stitch, and Stitch Simplicity. So amazing! You can use whatever fonts you have on your computer and spell things out and it charts them. You can also import a picture and it converts it to a cross-stitch chart. It even allows you to pick you favorite brand of thread and then maps each stitch to the exact color number from that brand.

So here’s my next cross-stitch project:

(Forgive me for breaking the rules of Craftster and getting political! I had to do it!)

To cheer myself up momentarily, I tried out the picture conversion feature on Landry.
How cute is his biography?!
Landry is a cute little boy raccoon who loves to wash anything he can get his hands on. His best friend is a rubber ducky named “Pea”. Landry’s hobbies include dancing and running on top of his tub, sliding, taking Pea for walks, and listening to music. (Mozart is his favorite). Landry loves to eat donuts, sausages, nuts and ice-cream, but chocolate is his very favorite. Landry’s birthday is December 8th.

Wowee! Great job, indeed. Forgive me if I did a lousy job searching (I swear, I really did try!) but can you suggest any killer sites that might help me along the path of learning to cross stitch? Thanks a ton, and keep up the great work, pal!!

Forgive me for breaking the rules of Craftster and getting political, but MOST of the country did vote for him.

This was a very close election. In fact it was the closest election since 1916. And historically speaking, a candidate that is an incumbent or a war time president usually does win in a landslide. President Bush was both things and did not win in a lanslide. He won by a very narrow margin.

So when you hear people in the media saying “MOST of the country” and “the nation gave him a mandate” etc perhaps we need to think about how humble a victory it really was. And be sensitive to the fact that almost as many people did not vote for him.

Here are some links that discuss this:

If you make the rules, please follow them.

Excuse me, I never said that the election was not close. I simply stated a TRUE fact that you seemed to misunderstand. No matter how many Americans voted for him, that does not change the fact that most of the country did. So I would suggest that we all move on with our lives. And if some of you hate George W. Bush so much, you are always welcome to move somewhere else.

I love your patterns, Leah! Could you post the entire Landry one somewhere? I love him! Would you recommend one of these programs over PC Stitch?

  11. Leah Says:

Heh. Stitched Princess, you’re a tart. Leah, I love that! Its awesome, I hate bush as well but I’m open to political views :)

I was pleased to see that the cross stitcher had the guts to speak up in a crafter’s style. The winners of this election need to be a little more gracious….after all you won. The ones that did not vote for him have the right to compain a little….after all, we all have been putting up with the last four years. God willing, the next four years will go by quickly! The bad thing is that we all we be four years older. UGH!!! This is my first time “blogging” on this site. I am really a nice person with morals and values. I give respect to those that give it to me. I have decided to drown myself in crafting of all areas for four years. It’s okay…we will all get thru this. We just need to pray together, work together and weather the storms that lay ahead of us. Happy crafting!!!!!
