Happy Earth Day to You!
|Share the love...||
There are actually two Earth Days. One is celebrated by the UN and other organizations, on the day of the vernal equinox (in 2009 that’s March 20). The other is April 22, which is also recognized by many nations, including the U.S., where it was initiated in 1970 by Gaylord Nelson, a Senator from Wisconsin. Whether you celebrate on April 22 or March 20, or both, there are lots of wonderful ways you can get your craft on and show your love for the Earth at the same time.
One of the best ways to show your love of our amazing planet is to recycle and repurpose existing materials in your crafts. This is something that Craftsters excel at! There are so many great examples of this throughout all the board, that I have picked just a few of my favorites to give you some inspiration. If you look through any of the boards you are sure to find many, many more.
If you have some stuff that you just know has potential, but you aren’t sure what to do with it, or if you have have questions about crafty recycling to discuss with your fellow Craftsters, our Reusing/Recycling/Recrafting Board is a great place to look.
If you are celebrating Earth Day with friends or family, there are some great posts with ideas to make your party special. Why not bake some cupcakes or an Earth Day Cake to share? If the weather is nice, a picnic or a hike are great ways to appreciate the natural world around you. Joining or organizing a cleanup effort in your area can be both a service and a lot of fun if you bring along some great people and make it an enjoyable day of fresh air, hard work, and friendship. Wherever you are you can celebrate both the Earth and your local community by observing Earth Day and spreading the word. Just as Craftster unites us all around the globe, Earth Day is our planet’s holiday, and it’s one we can all share, wherever we are on this big, gorgeous, blue marble of ours.
If you are doing something special and crafty for Earth Day, take a moment to share your thoughts and ideas! Happy Earth Day to all!
