Empowerment: Domestic Violence Awareness Month

|October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and even though the month is almost over, domestic violence affects women, children, and men throughout the year. Some Craftster members have participated in the needlework challenge about social causes, and others have beautifully, powerfully, and poignantly expressed their views on the subject through a variety of projects on several boards.|
As many crafters know, expressing yourself creatively can be therapeutic and cathartic. It can also spread a message of peace and empowerment to others that can communicate visually to give a very strong message. For some crafting is relaxing and entertaining, and for some the very act of crafting is a political statement. These projects are wonderful examples of both the personal and the political.
Our own Kittykill works with families affected by domestic violence and has created some amazing crafts related to empowerment. She is an fabulous crafter and an awesome advocate for women in crisis. Here are some of her words of advice if you or someone you care about is affected:
If you want to reach out and help with people affected by Domestic Violence, please call the national domestic violence hotline at 1-800-799-7233 and they can direct to services in your area. Everyone deserves to be safe, happy and healthy. Please remember, you or a loved one does not have to go through this experience alone. Reach out to others in your community. You are a strong, beautiful person and deserve to be treated and treat others that way.
