DIY Wedding Favor Ideas
|Share the love...||
The most popular time of the year to get married is here so we thought we’d take this opportunity to showcase some amazing DIY “wedding favor” ideas from the Craftster wedding forum.
There are so many directions you can go in for favors and it’s so cool to see so many ideas on Craftster that get away from the “just some tzotchke” idea that ends up in the Goodwill pile after the wedding.
What’s the best way to make sure your wedding favors don’t end up just collecting dust on someone’s shelves? Make them edible! Craftster member swift made sweet cookies with her and her husband’s names on them. jessc01 and madscientist went down the path of candy in gorgeous handmade packaging which match the colors and style of their wedding.
angelwing75 had an stunning “buttercup and clover” themed wedding which she shared lots of pictures of. The clever ideas she came up with just blew me away. Instead of a guestbook, people were invited to decorate river rocks from Target with messages to the new couple. The place cards were handmade pinwheels placed into fake grass. And the favors were tiny picnic baskets filled with candy. (I love that someone wrote “You guys ROCK!” on one of the rocks! haha)
Craftster member off_the_record had her reception in an old movie theater so they attached handmade place cards to boxes of movie candy. So inexpensive and clever! And I must say that getting to put your wedding party name on a beautiful old movie theater marquee is just about the coolest thing ever.
Speaking of awesome themes, I also love this “paint-themed” wedding which was dreamt up by showmehelen. The invitations paid homage to paint swatches and the favors were miniature paint cans filled with candy. I’m also not-so-secretly coveting her and her husband’s reception outfits. So gorgeous! There are two threads where you can read more about their wedding here and here.
Now, who doesn’t love a good pun? Oakwood1 bought a bunch of those tiny metal puzzles where the pieces are all twisted together (from Oriental Trading) and attached notes that said “We tied the knot and there’s no untangling us!” Craftster member tvtrayart filled cellophane bags with gumballs and stapled headers on that say “Michael and Cher – Stickin together in 2007.”
There a some great nature-themed favor ideas like akehurstm’s tree sapling favors and gumpsgirl’s cactus favors and skankin kiwi’s seed packet favors.
*MAR* and kristinp36 both burned CDs as favors complete with handmade covers.
I love the idea that NullSet came up with to create “newsletters” which contain all kinds of fun facts about the bride and groom and their wedding party and families. Click the photos to see what kinds of “fun facts” and story ideas she came up with. This is such a neat way to give everyone a unique window into the happy couple’s lives and personalities.
TheBon and Le Cirage both busted out their button makers to make their favors for their weddings. Click on the pictures to see even more mass wedding craftiness that the two of them undertook. We promise you will not be disappointed!
And, now, last but not least, a few random ideas that are beautiful, easy and cheap! What more could you ask for? Melted crayon favors for kids by sweets4ever, custom temporary tattoos by TheSueb, cookie cutter favors by crazy_bc_jen and decorated matchboxes by *MAR*.
Phew! Now that’s a lot of ideas! For even more wedding craftiness, don’t forget to check out the Craftster forum entitled Weddings and Bridal Showers.
