Crafting for a Cause

In the back of my mind, I’m always trying to think of ways to use crafting as a way of doing good in the world. The website Crafters for Critters has done a brilliant job of this. What it is is a nicely set up web shop full of cool things that awesomely talented crafters donate. When people buy them, the proceeds go to an animal rescue league.

I’m so impressed by the generousity of what crafters donate to Crafters for Critters. And to Melissa (of Lekkner.com fame) — my hat is off to you for starting this site and putting in the time it takes to run it.

I wish there were a site like this (not ebay) where you could donate something and select was charity you wanted the proceeds to go to. Not that I’m not a supporter of the greyhound casuse, but…there are so many worthy organizations to support and this is such a great way to do it!

Yeah. It’s such an awesome idea. I’ve wanted to do something like this myself but it takes so much time to set up such a store!

This structure makes so much more sense to me than making stuff for animals to *use*. Cats and dogs are happy with anything that’s soft… old towels and blankets are as good as cashmere to them. It makes so much more sense to donate *money* to shelters and orgs to spend on things that may be needed more, are a better return on investment, and more helpful in the long run to the animals.

    Plus… I LOVE greyhounds!
