one ball knits cover This book by Khadija, Fatema, and Hajera Habibur-Rahman includes twenty knitting patterns for adorable purses that can be made from one skein, hank or spool of yarn. The patterns are divided by season (five patterns each) but could easily be used year-round. The book starts with easy to follow explanations of the tools, materials, and techniques needed to create these purses. The illustrations are clear and suggested suppliers are included in an appendix at the back of the book.

The purses themselves are adorable. Most of them are cables or otherwise textured, and they range from fun, modern, and casual to sophisticated, vintage-inspired evening bags. The authors have a great eye for combining design and yarn with hardware and notions to make beautiful, usable bags that will appeal to many different women. These purses would make great gifts.
