Randomly Spotted on the Galactic Interweb…

weaving Can you guess who made the gorgeous golden yellow fiber for this beautiful weaving? I bet you can’t! No really, try to guess. OK, I will tell you….

Like many people I am a bit nervous about spiders. Although they are nature’s top weavers, and are quite beautiful in their own right, they inspire both fear and admiration in so many people, and I have to confess that I am one. Having accidentally crashed through sticky webs while strolling in the woods, I never would have imagined they could be used to create such a beautiful work of human artistry. The spiders used to make this fiber were collected and silked for about 20 minutes, and then released into nature. This is only the second known spider silk tapestry. The first one disappeared around 1900. Check out this amazing story from NPR to learn more details about this unique project. spiders
